Nuggets opt to re-sign center McGee

Associated Press  |  Last updated July 18, 2012
The Denver Nuggets have re-signed free agent center JaVale McGee to a multiyear contract, fulfilling one of their top offseason priorities. Masai Ujiri, Denver's executive vice president of basketball operations made the announcement Wednesday night. Yahoo Sports reported the deal was for $44 million over four years. The 24-year-old 7-footer averaged 11.3 points, 7.8 rebounds and 2.16 blocked shots in 61 games last year for the Washington Wizards and the Nuggets, who acquired him in the Nene deal in mid-March. McGee had two huge games against the Los Angeles Lakers in the playoffs, prompting coach George Karl to say: ''I don't think I've ever coached a guy like this. He has the moves of a 6-6 player.'' Earlier this summer, the Nuggets also re-signed free agent point guard Andre Miller.
