Remember when Greg Oden was a lock for the 1st overall pick of the NBA Draft? Then we saw Kevin Durant play. While Oden has lived up to the hype and been a force in Columbus, it's Texas' Kevin Durant that's making more headlines. Their great play has been one of the best stories we've had this college basketball season. But if both declare for the NBA Draft after the season, who will go first?

  • People keep saying centers are such a commodity that Oden has to go #1 but with the game evolving and teams choosing to go small and be more athletic, Durant could be the prototype going forward, much like Garnett was 10 years ago. However, that said, as a fan who's team (Philly) has a chance at the top pick, I'd opt for Oden. He's a tremendous defensive presence. He's still playing with one hand essentially and the injury has forced him to use his left hand, which he is doing admirably. He's even shooting his free throws lefty with success, unlike Bo Kimble. I (like many others) think he's the next in the lineage of great centers.
  • Before Oden, there was Shaq getting tons of hype. Before Shaq, it was David Robinson. To be compared to those two (as a freshman no less) shows you how good this guy can be.

I agree, I love Durant. Oden seems like such an obvious pick, that someone will screw it up. Where's the Texans when you need them?
  • Depending on who gets the top two picks, it would be hard to screw this up. Both players have potential through the roof and have played significantly well on the college level, so some potential has already been realized. Obviously things will shape up closer to the draft, but if someone took one over the other, and they didn't live up to their billing, I'm not sure you could fault the team for that. This isn't a Darko situation.
  • There will be two happy team come draft day. That's a fact!
  • Its like choosing between filet mignon or lobster. You win either way.
  • Yeah, both are going to be great. I would take Oden because a player like him comes along only a few times in a lifetime. Players like Durant are a dime a dozen. Oden changes the game defensicely and can rebound. You can still run a Suns-style offense with Oden and be successful. If Oden can beef up, I think he can live up to those giant expectations.
  • I agree. Durant scores more, but his position allows him too. Plus, while Durant is amazingly talented, he is easier to stop than Oden. Oden has realistically been stopped by only one team, Florida, and thats because they had the athletes to simply double him down-low. Most teams do not have that ability.
  • The argument used for justifying Oden going first reaks of Sam Bowie.
  • I don't know about that. Yes, Bowie was highly regarded coming out of high school, but he spent five years at Kentucky and ended up with a bunch of leg problems. That was also 25 years ago. It's a different time. Bowie would have been the first overall pick if he went to the NBA directly from high school.
  • I just hope that the Cs continue to "rehab" Pierce and create seperation for the worst record in the NBA
  • the league is moving faster, Durant will be the next star
