I will be signing with dallas! #Mavsnation about 10 hours ago via Twitter for BlackBerry®ReplyRetweetFavorite @JuiceMayo32 OJ Mayo

O.J. Mayo, the one-time boy wonder whose development has stagnated over the past two seasons but could potentially be resuscitated in the right situation, tweeted on Monday night that he has signed with the Dallas Mavericks.

The Mavs only had about $4 million in cap space and Mayo was reportedly looking for $8 million per, prompting speculation about whether the Mayo deal was part of a larger sign-and-trade involving Jason Terry and the Boston Celtics. My fingers are crossed, I just put on my lucky underwear and I’m not religious at all yet I think I might go to church today. But if an ESPN report of Mayo’s deal being two years with a player option in the second is correct, a sign-and-trade is impossible. S & T’s can only be executed with contracts of three or four years.

And if the Mavs added Mayo for $4 million per year, props to Mark Cuban. Props to him anyway for spreading phoenix tears on Dallas’ roster, which was dead just a week ago. The Mavs looked like serious lottery contenders for a few days but have now added Darren Collison, Elton Brand, Chris Kaman and Mayo for almost nothing.

And Courtney Lee is left as the lone free agent object of my affection.
