Mavericks guard O.J. Mayo statistically had the most productive season of his career, so you would assume he’s happy. According to ESPN L.A., Mayo will thank the Mavs by declining the player option for a second season in Dallas, and becoming a free agent.
Mayo could have made $4.2 million in Dallas next season, but will take his chances trying to secure a long term deal.
O.J. Mayo will opt out of his 2013-14 player option with the Dallas Mavericks and become a free agent this summer. However, Mayo says he hopes to sign a long term contract and remain in Dallas. Had he picked up his player option for next season, he would have made $4.2 million. Mayo averaged 15.3 points, 4.4 assists and 3.5 rebounds a game this season.
