Following the devastating tornadoes that ripped through Oklahoma, leaving a trail of death and destruction its wake, Oklahoma City Thunder star Kevin Durant has pledged to donate a $1 million of his own money to aid in relief efforts for the victims of this horrific natural disaster. @kdtrey5 steps forward and gives $1mil matching gift to the ARC for disaster relief, text “REDCROSS” to 90999 for a $10 donation. — Red Cross Oklahoma (@redcrossokc) May 21, 2013 Classy move by a classy player. In related news, the team has also pledged a $1 million in relief aid, matching Durant’s initial offer (via ESPN)… The Thunder announced Tuesday that they’ll give $1 million to the American Red Cross, the Salvation Army and other disaster relief organizations helping after Monday’s disaster in suburban Oklahoma City. Earlier in the day, Durant pledged $1 million to the Red Cross from his Durant Family Foundation intended to match other donations and be an incentive for more people to give It’s stuff like this—dropping a million dollars without hesitation—that makes it so easy to root for Kevin Durant. Hopefully other celebs and athletes will follow Durant’s selfless lead and step up their donation game.
