On Tuesday, Memphis Grizzlies guard Tony Allen held “Tony Allen Karaoke Night,” a charity event benefiting the Juvenile Intervention and Faith-Based Follow-Up. Allen was scheduled to meet with fans and sign autographs, but the high point (or low point, depending on one’s perspective) of the evening had to be when he took the microphone to sing some karaoke jams. It was the “Tony Allen Karaoke Night,” after all, not the “Tony Allen Meets with Fans and Signs Autographs Night.” ESPN Radio’s Chris Vernon has provided video footage of Allen singing “This is How We Do It” by Montell Jordan and Michael Jackson’s “Rock With You.” And both performances have to be seen to be believed. First up, “This is How We Do It:” Yikes. No, that is not how we do it. “We” being used to describe people who perform karaoke, although I really don’t include myself a regular member of that community, although I will occasionally perform a rocking rendition of “L.A. Woman” by The Doors from time to time when the mood should strike me. Allen even took to Twitter to admit he was having some difficulty busting out the lyrics of the 1995 R&B jam: I can’t believe I was having trouble with the words 2 / “This is how we Do it!! — Tony Allen (@aa000G9) April 17, 2013 Indeed. Moving on, here’s “Rock With You,” the 1979 single of Michael Jackson’s breakthrough solo album, “Off the Wall.” A slight improvement. And yet, it was all for charity and he was a good sport about it, so kudos to Tony Allen for raising funds. But he does need to fine-tune his karaoke skills just a bit before the next “Tony Allen Karaoke Night.” [H/T Game On!, images via, via] TweetThe post On ‘Tony Allen Karaoke Night’ Tony Allen sang karaoke…poorly (pics/vids) appeared first on Sportress of Blogitude.
