Patrick Ewing, the “Big Fella” has no bench to call his own at the moment and I am not sure a job will come his way anytime soon. If and when this job does come; where will Patrick Ewing end up in the long run? I was never sold on Pat as a coach and mentor. He never struck me as the guy who studied the X’s and O’s, however I have been wrong many times and I am sure I am missing something. This past summer, some openings in the league became available and these jobs have since been filled.
Ewing is one of the top 50 players of all time and the greatest Knick to walk the earth (sorry Clyde). He battled every year in the league, gave it all he had, played injured and carried this franchise but just come up short of a title. He had a testy relationship with the media and the fans; however he earned the love and respect from all, including the Mayor, to the cop on the beat, to the man on the street. When he left the Garden we expected him to be back at some capacity within the organization. Why hasn’t this opportunity been presented to him?
We can go on and on about Isiah Thomas not wanting Patrick Ewing back to receive serenades every night and take away from his power structure, but did Patrick want to come back? Was he waiting for the Knicks to come calling?
