Found February 17, 2013 on Celtics Life:
Before Rajon Rondo was lost for the season he was dominating the NBA in triple doubles, with 5 (no other Celtic had any).  Since Rondo's been gone Paul Pierce has taken over that role by recording 2 triple doubles of his own (the only player in the NBA with more than one in that time span), which puts him tied for second in the league on the season behind Rondo.   Over the 38 games that Rondo played this year, amazingly he led the Celtics in both assists and rebounds in 9 of them (no other Celtic did once).  But in Rondo's absence Pierce has now accomplished that same feat 3 times in 9 games (he's also led Boston in assists alone on 7 of 9 occasions). When Rondo's injury occurred Pierce was averaging 18.8 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 3.8 assists per game.  Since?  17 points, 9.4 rebounds, and 7.2 assists.  Halfway through his 15th NBA season, at 35 years of age, the Celtics #2 all-time scorer has dramatically changed his game in order to make up for the loss of his ...

Video: Recapping the Celtics' pre-All-Star game run without Rajon Rondo

As the trade deadline looms, the Celtics' future is uncertain. In the wake of Rajon Rondo's ACL tear and the announcement that he would be done for the season, many presumed that the Celtics were done for the season. Many said the team should blow it up and start to rebuild. Boston Celtics head coach Doc Rivers was not among those doubters. Rivers said to the media in a...

Rumor: Paul Pierce is the key to getting Josh Smith

With less than 30 hours remaining until Thursday’s 3 p.m. ET trade deadline, trade chatter involving the Boston Celtics has been turned up a notch. News that the Atlanta Hawks are “definitely” trying to move Smith this week surely brought a smile upon the faces of the Celtics’ brass. It’s been no secret that the 27-year-old forward has been a long-time target of the team...

Report: Celtics and Lakers are talking Rondo for Howard swap

Ken Berger of CBS Sports has this blockbuster report: However, CBSSports.com has learned that the Lakers have engaged in preliminary trade discussions with an unlikely trade partner regarding Howard: their fierce rival, the Boston Celtics. The centerpieces of the possible deal, which hasn’t gained any traction, would be Howard and Rajon Rondo. The imagination runs rampant with...

Wave of Celtics Injuries Affecting Ticket Prices

As of late, the injury gods have not been kind to the Celtics. First Rajon Rondo is gone for the season with a torn ACL along with Jared Sullinger who has a bad back and needs surgery. Now, less than a month later it’s Leandro Barbosa, also with a torn ACL, and Paul Pierce with a pinched nerve. Luckily, these injuries have not seemed to heavily impact the success of the team so...

Lakers-Celtics discuss Dwight Howard for Rajon Rondo swap

The Dwight Howard era in Los Angeles hasn't exactly started off as expected. There's been nothing but drama, infighting, rumors and a lot of losing too. There's been speculation that the Lakers could try to move Howard, with all of the aforementioned things seemingly likely to keep him from signing an extension with the storied Los Angeles franchise. Those have been...

Cross one of the list, Rondo-Howard talks were weeks ago

Last night unleashed a frenzy of trade rumors, most notably a report from CBS' Ken Berger that the Celtics and Lakers were in discussions about a Rajon Rondo - Dwight Howard swap. While the other rumor of sending Kevin Garnett to the other LA team, the Clippers, in exchange for DeAndre Jordan and Eric Bledsoe also got a lot of traction, this one stirred maybe the most controversy...

Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce Turning Back the Clock to Keep Celtics Contending Without Rajon Rondo

Kevin Garnett didn’t exactly make the dramatic All-Star game exit many Celtics fans had been hoping for when he cryptically leaked last week that this would be his last appearance in the event. He did take the floor as the starting center for the Eastern Conference, however, fulfilling his due diligence in the lineup and saluting the fans. The big man does, after all, have a surging...

Rajon Rondo, Dwight Howard Trade More Than Far-Fetched, But Fun to Think About

OK, Internet. This is your time. Less than one full week remains before the NBA trade deadline, and now is the time when all semblance of sanity flies out of the window. So-called “anonymous sources” are about to work overtime. Even by the usual crazy standards of trade deadline season, though, Friday’s report that the Celtics and Lakers had engaged in preliminary talks for...

Report: Lakers and Celtics have had preliminary trade discussions involving Rajon Rondo and Dwight Howard

Ken Berger of CBS Sports reported last night that the Los Angeles Lakers and Boston Celtics have had “preliminary discussion” regarding a trade that would send Rajon Rondo to the Lakers and Dwight Howard to the Celtics. This despite what we’ve heard from both organizations regarding their young stars. Earlier this month, Lakers GM Mitch Kupchak told the LA Times that, “We...

KG vs Craig Sager's Suits Part Deux

KG shares with Craig Sager that he likes the Celtics team. I'm with KG. I like this team and hope that Danny just adds a couple of nice pieces or makes a very minor trade. I hate all the blow it up trade ideas I'm seeing. I still say that KG and Paul Pierce have earned the right to retire as Celtics. Anyway, after that, KG once again launches a critique on Craig Sager...

Report: Rondo for Howard discussed

The Celtics are conducting “preliminary talks” with the Los Angeles Lakers about swapping Rajon Rondo for Dwight Howard, according to CBSSports.com’s Ken Berger. While Berger points out that the deal “hasn’t gained any traction,” it seems like, at the very least, the Lakers and Celtics are talking about the possibility of trading two of their biggest stars.

Report: Celtics Sign Former Lottery Pick, Louisville Star Terrence Williams

Terrence Williams, a former lottery pick and standout player at Louisville, is back in the NBA. Multiple reports stated Monday that the Celtics signed Williams to add depth to their bench, which has been decimated by injuries. Williams gives the Celtics 11 healthy players, rounding out a roster that was in a precarious position after the season-ending injuries to Rajon Rondo, Jared...

Josh Smith For Paul Pierce?

Tough tough decisions for Danny Ainge up in Boston. There were offers on the table for KG, more specifically: DeAndre Jordan and Eric Bledsoe from the Clippers. But the thing is with Garnett, he’s got a No Trade clause in his contract. No unless he’s willing to go, he can’t be traded. And we already have KG on record saying he “bleeds green.” Well now Josh Smith is on the...

Celtics-Nuggets Live: Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce Slated to Suit Up for Boston in Denver, For Now

8 a.m. ET: The Celtics ruin everything. A little over a week ago, the Nuggets were just rolling along, winners of nine straight and looking like one of the most formidable teams in the Western Conference. Since dropping a triple-overtime game in Boston, though, the Nuggets have seen their losing streak grow to three games and lurch into the post-All-Star break schedule just hoping...
