I must say, it's great to see the people of Philadelphia excited again with the Phillies back in the World Series for the first time since 1993. In some respects, Philly tends to be an under appreciated sports town. For all the flack they take about their obnoxious behavior (in some cases overblown), from the battery jokes to booing Santa Claus (yawn), people forget what a great, passionate sports town it really is.

Now with that said, Philly fans, let's not crown our dongs the king of fuck mountain just yet. You've made the World Series, you haven't won it. And when people mention the last time the Phils made it this far, that's likely where you'd prefer the conversation end. Yeah, back when Curt Schilling didn't have a blog and way before everyone wanted to collectively shit in his mouth. Yeah, the Joe Carter year, that painful parting shot to an otherwise entertaining World Series.

And your recent history in big games like the Super Bowl (2004) and the NBA Finals (2001) suggests you walk carefully. Eagles certainly had their chances in '04 against the vulnerable Pats, Brady was far from perfect (this is when he had the Lloyd Christmas haircut), but we all know what happened or allegedly happened, and we certainly know the fallout. T.O. bitched his way out of town and the best the Eagles have done since is squeak out a first round playoff victory.

Similarly, in the 2001 NBA Finals against the Lakers, Iverson momentarily shut everyone up after dropping 48 points, stepping over Tyronne Lue and stealing game 1. But four games later, it was over, as over as Tyrone Hill's ability to corral a rebound. The Sixers haven't been past the Eastern Conference semifinals since.

So enjoy this shit, Philly. Soak it all up like it's one giant drinking helmet, you should know by now incredible runs like this don't happen every year.
