ESPN LA’s Arash Markazi tweeted out the photo above before Game 2 of the 1st round matchup between the Los Angeles Clippers and the Memphis Grizzlies. Yes, Clipper balloons are adorned on the statues of four institutional figures from the Los Angeles Lakers (Magic, Kareem, Jerry and Chick) just outside Staples Center. The Lakers have been the dominant figure in LA compared to their fellow franchise, who have been virtually a joke for most of its history. This season has been a different story, altogether, as the Clippers secured their first Pacific Division title, while the Lakers had to sweat it out just to make it into the postseason. If you ask me, this is just much ado about nothing, unless you are an excessively sensitive Laker fan. They have more pressing needs as of the moment, as they trail the San Antonio Spurs 1-0, compared to the Clippers’ now 2-0 lead over the Grizzlies.
