Pro Sports Daily:
Pistons rookie Kentavious Caldwell-Pope is starting to draw notice for his defense.
ESPN’s Henry Abbott named Caldwell-Pope as one of the NBA’s surprisingly productive defenders.
He wrote Tuesday: “Caldwell-Pope has played close to 500 minutes, during which time the Pistons have given up a stingy 96.9 points per 100 possessions.
“When he has sat, Pistons are allowing 108.4. The difference is 11.5, at least some of which, you’d think, has to do with the fact that this rookie guard is living up to his predraft reputation as a committed defender.”
Defense possibly is the most difficult skill for rookies to learn, so it’s promising that Caldwell-Pope is considered a plus-defender so early in his career. He is adept at limiting touches, a key to good defense because a player can’t score if he doesn’t have the ball.
BEST OF MAXIM
If there were a power ranking in regard to NBA players names being plugged into ESPN’s Trade Machine, Greg Monroe would be at or near the top of the list. The 23-year-old Monroe is set to hit free agency this summer and more than likely in search of a maximum-level contract. Although Monroe has been a proven post scorer and proficient rebounder, he’s struggled on the defensive...
Thus far, Pistons rookie Tony Mitchell’s NBA career has consisted of eight games played, an average of three minutes per game and some SICK pre-game dunks. The North Texas University Mean Green product was taken 37th overall by the Pistons in the 2013 draft. The 6’8″ power forward is biding his time on the bench behind Greg Monroe, Josh Smith, Charlie Villenueva...
The Detroit Pistons have been hitting their stride a bit as of late. Sure, they still aren’t a powerhouse in the NBA, but no one was really expecting that level of play from them.
One of the big reasons for their recent upward trend is that second-year big man Andre Drummond has been playing like an All-Star and Brandon Jennings is beginning...
The Pistons backcourt is a tale of contrast in terms of its defensive production thus far this season, and Maurice Cheeks, soft spoken as he is, has begun to demand more from basketball’s most important position.
While Kentavious Caldwell-Pope is beginning to garner attention for his defensive intensity, one couldn’t help but notice Timberwolves point guard Ricky Rubio dissect...
Brandon Jennings had two shots to give the Detroit Pistons a win in regulation at New Orleans — what would have been their fifth straight road win. Instead, both of his long 3-point attempts in the closing seconds clanged off the rim and Detroit went on to lose in overtime, falling to 10-13 on the season.
The loss wasted a sensational effort by Greg Monroe, who finished with 28...
The Pistons mascot, Hooper, and his sidekick Andre Drummond have (for some unknown reason) decided to create their own music video for Eminem’s ‘Berzerk.’ As much as I want to hate this, it is pretty funny and hard to not laugh at it. Good for Andre for having some fun out there.

Ryan Anderson shook off an unusually poor shooting night from long range, hitting two clutch 3-pointers in overtime that carried the New Orleans Pelicans to a 111-106 victory over the Detroit Pistons on Wednesday night.
Jason Smith scored 22 points and grabbed a career-high 16 rebounds for the Pelicans, who snapped a two-game skid while handing Detroit its third straight loss. Anderson...
Kevin Love had 26 points and 16 rebounds to lead the Minnesota Timberwolves to a 121-94 rout of the Detroit Pistons on Tuesday night.
Love only played 30 minutes, sitting out the fourth quarter with the big lead. Detroit was unable to stop him inside, outside or on the break. Several of his seven assists came on his trademark 70-foot outlet passes off missed shots.
