The San Antonio Spurs’ game against the Grizzlies on Saturday was a matchup of two of the top teams in the Western Conference. I do believe in the old saying that you don’t win championships in December, but this was a big game. Winning a hard fought battle in overtime, especially after being down by 13 going into the fourth quarter is going to give the Spurs a lot of confidence going forward. Tony Parker led the team in scoring with 30 points, including eight in overtime and was a big part of the Spurs’ win. Not to be outdone was the ageless wonder, Tim Duncan. Duncan finished the game with 27 points, 15 rebounds, four assists, a steal and a block. He filled up the stat sheet and showed why he’s still one of the league’s elite power forwards, capable of being the big guy the Spurs can rely on. After the game, Coach Gregg Popovich was clearly impressed with the performance, but says it’s just the norm for Timmy D. "He did what he's been doing the whole season and all of last year,” Pop said. “He's the ultimate competitor. He's the ultimate pro. He brings it every night and that was just another example." Duncan’s numbers are actually up compared to the last few years. It’s great to see him preforming at such a high level after being thought too old by a bunch of experts a countless number of times. The team’s success is going to correlate with Duncan’s for the rest of the year. As long as the future Hall-of-Famer keeps it going like this, watch out for the Spurs.
