NorthWest Sports Beat:
Which is your favorite?
The Portland Trail Blazers have the potential to be one of the most exciting, young basketball teams in the entire NBA. Their roster is full of energetic players, and the athleticism displayed on the floor is the reason they have highlights almost every night whether they win or lose.
The Blazers have made plays all year long, but here is a look at the top 5 from the first 23 games of the 2012-13 NBA season.
5) Luke Babbitt Jams on the Ed Davis
Sometime a highlight is mention-worthy simply because of the unexpected nature of the play. It’s safe to say that any time Luke Babbitt puts someone on a poster, it’s fairly unexpected.
4) Nicolas Batum Does His Best Clyde “The Glyde” Impression
Nicolas Batum has some of the sneakiest athleticism in the NBA. You know it’s there, and you know it can be unleashed at any moment—you just don’t know when that moment’s going to take place.
3) Nicolas Batum in the Clucth
Coming into the season, one of the biggest questions surrounding this team was whether or not Batum would earn the giant contract that he signed over the summer. We may be just 23 games into the year, but the fifth-year forward is beginning to show that he can do it on offense, defense and late in the game when the team needs him most.
2) Meyers Leonard goes Blake Griffin on the L.A. Clippers
When you watch a Los Angeles Clippers game, you expect to see high-flying jams all over the court. But do you expect to see them from Meyers Leonard?
The Blazers’ rookie big man showed that he, too, can have an impact above the rim, and that Blake Griffin and DeAndre Jordan aren’t the only ones who deserve the spotlight night in and night out.
1) Damian Lillard Shows His Clutch Gene
Freshest in our memories, there’s no denying that Damian Lillard’s late-game heroics against the New Orleans Hornets deserves serious recognition at this point in the season.
If Lillard’s clutch shot gets surpassed as the No. 1 play by the end of the season, so be it—that’s a good thing. That means there were more memorable plays en route to an exciting, successful year.
But as for now, no one play can compete with a shot that proved the Blazers have a young superstar on their roster who can take over from start to finish.

Back in 1984, the Portland Trail Blazers selected Sam Bowie with the second overall pick in the NBA Draft and changed the course of history for many franchises with that selection. In an upcoming ESPN "SEC Storied" episode about his life, an excerpt from the film discusses a moment when Bowie is going in for his pre-draft medical examination and it appears that Sam might...
Nicolas Batum is a young gifted athlete for the Portland Trailblazers who is only 23 years old in his five season playing in the NBA. On July 15th, 2012, Nicolas inked himself a four year deal worth $46 million dollars. A month later, he earned fame worldwide by taking a swing at Juan Carlos-Navarro's family jewels. To say the least, Nicolas had himself a busy summer.
Outside of the prestigious quadruple-double, another honor for any NBA player to acquire is a 5×5 game, in which I have written in-depth about if you want to feed your brain in that manner, as it requires a player to be aggressive and efficient on both sides of the floor. If you do not understand [...]The post Nicolas Batum Record First 5×5 Game Since 2006 appeared first on The NBA Mistress.

A lot of banter in Portland has been over whether LaMarcus Aldridge is a long-term number one option for the Trail Blazers. Before the season, there was little to no talk in this direction.
