Time to move onward? Yesterday Jackie MacMullan wrote a piece for ESPN Boston entitled "Paul Pierce not giving up the ship."  She touches on Pierce's contributions and struggles this series, and notes that each remaining game could be his last as a Celtic.  MacMullan also gives a sobering reality check regarding the current state of the team: "We all know the potential scenarios by now. When the Celtics finally succumb to the younger, faster, deeper Knicks, the front office will take a good, hard look at this broken roster, which has the smallest margin for error of any professional basketball team in these parts in recent memory, and they will make some tough decisions.  The inevitable word -- rebuilding -- seems imminent.  The Celtics likely will gauge interest in Pierce and KG on the trading block, as they did before the trade deadline. They could buy out Pierce for $5 million (he's due to make $15.3 million) or use their amnesty clause to waive him. G...

BOSTON – The tables have turned in the first half in Game 4, as the Knicks failed to reach 20 points in either quarter and trail the Celtics 54-35 at the half. Paul Pierce exploded at the end of the half to open up the 17 points lead with 17 points of his own and eight of them coming in the last few plays of the half. After starting 2-for-5 in the first, Pierce hit all four of...

Crowdsourcing the Celtics: Pierce talks about his future. Here’s your take

I’m not thrilled this came up today while this series, technically, is still going on…. but Paul Pierce was asked about his future as a Celtic.  Here’s part of what he said “Truthfully, I haven’t put too much thought into [the future],” Pierce said at the team’s morning shootaround at Madison Square Garden. The Celtics and Knicks clash in Game 5 of an Eastern Conference...

Kevin Garnett Cuts Off Sideline Reporter, Says ‘We Out Here Scrapping’ After Celtics Take Down Knicks (Video)

Stop those silly questions. KG has something real to say. Kevin Garnett was in fine interviewing spirits after the Celtics held off the Knicks 92-86 on Wednesday night, keeping their first-round series alive as the Celts chipped back to 3-2. Doc Rivers says what Kevin Garnett goes through in order to play would force some guys to retire

Doc had this to say yesterday about his 17 year veteran future Hall of Fame center (via CSNNE's Jimmy Toscano): "People have no idea what he goes through, and you can't unfortunately. But it really is [admirable] watching him just in there now doing all the stuff that they're doing, the stretching. He just plays because he loves it, and it's will. A lot of guys...

Fight breaks out after Celtics-Knicks Game 5

Boston Celtics reserve guard Jordan Crawford instigated a postgame tussle by taunting New York Knicks star Carmelo Anthony following Boston’s 92-86 victory over the Knicks in Game 5 on Wednesday night at Madison Square Garden. As both teams crossed paths leaving the court,

Knicks flip-flop on doubling Pierce in Game 4

The biggest head scratching move on what hopefully will turn out to be a series swinging Celtics game 4 win, was the Knicks deciding to no longer double Paul Pierce and Jeff Green. The Knicks went away from throwing two guys on them for every first catch, but why? Clearly it had been working in the first three games and inexplicably they decided to stop doing that in the first half...

Ticket to Game Six

With the clock ticking down and the Knicks climbing back into the game, Kevin Garnett showed a series of pump fakes, got airspace from Tyson Chandler, and made a deep two point jumper to put Boston ahead by seven with 48 seconds to go. Garnett was pushing 40 minutes of playing time, but his energy and focus was there when the Celtics needed it most. The "Big Ticket" finished...

Jason Terry Hints that Kevin Garnett is Retiring

The Boston Celtics were able to keep their playoffs alive yesterday by defeating the New York Knicks 97-90 in overtime to bring the series to a 3-1 Knicks lead. While many doubt the chances of the Celtics actually coming back to win the series, it was nice to see the team still fight for their pride at home when many had already written them off. Jason Terry played a key role...

NEW YORK – Kevin Garnett is stepping up on both ends o carry the Boston Celtics to a 45-39 halftime lead over the New York Knicks in Game 5. The Celtics, down 3-1 in the series, got off to the type of deflating start that has become synonymous with the phrase “second half” over the past week.
