Rajon Rondo decides to spend his birthday in LA instead of at the Celtics game, which has raised the ire of both fans and Danny Ainge. Photo credit: dailyknicks.com Rajon Rondo, the 15th captain in Celtics history, may have landed himself in some hot water after his latest decision. The star point guard decided to spend his 28th birthday party in Los Angeles, which would have been perfectly fine if the Boston Celtics weren’t in Sacramento playing the Kings that very same night. Steve Bulpett from the Boston Herald had the report: “The Celtics are not taking it as a major issue, but the team is still hoping to straighten things out with Rajon Rondo after his decision to stay in Los Angeles and not accompany the team to Sacramento for Saturday’s game. While some were displeased by the move, for which Rondo did not receive official permission, others pointed out he was not scheduled to play in the game anyway (on the second night of a back-to-back), and that he may have simply been making some assumptions based on precedent. Multiple sources say he remained in LA for a birthday celebration. He turned 28 on Saturday.” An argument could be made that Rondo was not expected to play this game so it really doesn’t matter, but this is the team’s leader and the guard position is dangerously low on experience. Undrafted rookie Phil Pressley and combo guard Jerryd Bayless were the only two natural guards who saw time during the game, and having Rondo there to help coach those two up and give them advice could have only benefited the guards and the team’s chances of winning.” Rajon Rondo and Danny Ainge have some conflicting things to say on this matter, which does not indicated that they are on the same page at all. “We already talked about it,” Rondo said. “There’s nothing to talk about.” “I plan on talking to Rondo when he gets back into town,” Ainge told Bulpett. “I’ll find out more about what went into it, and then we’ll handle it internally.” Whether or not this was an honest mistake by Rondo is undetermined, but this is something a player of Rondo’s stature can be doing. It will be interesting to determine how Boston handles this situation going forward, but I think we can all agree that something has got to give if the Celtics truly do want to rebuild the team around Rajon Rondo.

Uncomfortably Numb

Can't stop the rain - of humiliating losses.  That's not what hurts, though.   We all knew this summer that Danny had set the team up to lose, and the Lee trade, followed by the Crawford trade only made that more obvious.  Danny wasn't quite tanking, but he was dancing right up to the edge of it.  And that's ok.  I'm no tanker, and I think tanking is dishonorable...

Yet that favorable situation was not enough to satisfy some fans, who think Ainge should have been more active at the NBA trade deadline. Two straight Celtics losses since then should...
