If you're going to talk about the Cavs' offseason without even mentioning guys like Anthony Parker (above) and Jamario Moon, then don't even talk at all.The days when I thought of RealGM.com as a place to go to for good basketball coverage look like they are coming to an end.
It's enough to post a garbage article detailing 10 bogus reasons why
LeBron would leave the Cavs for the Knicks. That is more about
speculating and being desperate, no matter how nonsensical it is.
But the way this article from Wednesday talked about the Cavs' eventful offseason
has, at least in my eyes, completed RealGM's evolution into a joker
site that probably has as much to do with basketball as Packers fans
have to do with Brett Favre nowadays: Nothing.
Just read the drivel and you tell me if there's anything wrong with this picture:Danny Ferry decides to use his expiring contracts to make his team better: Good call. The player he gives up those assets for turning out to be Shaq: Bad call.Trading for Shaq with Big Z on roster is more than baffling. Now, I
enjoy Shaq off the court as much as anyone, but there is no reasonable
way that the two he and Z can be on the court at the same time. Shaq
has a use against Dwight Howard, but he came at the expense of adding a piece that could have a much larger impact on a game-to-game basis. Plus, any combo of Shaq/Z and Varejao carries many of the same problems
that sank Cleveland this past season in a seven-game series against a
good team. This is still an impossibly shallow team at the swingmen
spots despite having the best player in the league who can also play 40
a game. The best thing that happened to Cleveland was Orlando becoming a more
conventional team- they basically lucked into a more favorable matchup.
While I believe the Cavs' long-term talent is better than New York's,
I'm not sure that the margin is sufficient to take even them out of the
running for LeBron, much less places like Miami and New Jersey that
have legit pieces in place. Also, grabbing Christian Eyenga may have seemed like one of those Spurs-like moves at the time, but
what are the odds this team needs a guy like him three years from now?
For Cleveland, the only time that matters is now, and they did not do a
good job of maximizing their assets to make the best team possible for
a title run this year.Hmmmm. Is that really a summary of the Cavs' offseason? Because I swear
I didn't see the names "Anthony Parker," "Jamario Moon," and "Leon
Powe" in there. In fact, this clown actually questions the Cavs' depth at the wings while ignoring the signings of the 6'6" Parker and the 6'8" Moon altogether. I don't know how RealGM found this Daniel Leroux character qualified enough to be making an analysis of any kind on their website, but it definitely goes straight to the credibility of both the author and the website. The author even mentions a guy who won't even be playing at all for the Cavs this year, Christian Eyenga, while ignoring guys who will, like Parker, Moon, and second-round pick Danny Green.Twenty-five teams are ranked ahead of the Cavs. Twenty-five. That includes a New Jersey team that made a salary dump and won't even win 30 games this year, a Utah team that didn't really even add anybody, a Houston team that swapped Ron Artest for Trevor Ariza (and one that also will probably be without Yao Ming for all of next year), a Milwaukee team that made a salary dump for straight up garbage, a Denver team that couldn't keep Dahntay Jones and Linus Kleiza (in fact, this idiot spells Kleiza's name completely wrong), a Philadelphia team that lost Andre Miller for nothing, a Minnesota team that drafted three point guards in the first round, a Miami team that did pretty much nothing whatsoever, a Charlotte team that willingly and inexplicably downgraded from Emeka Okafor to Tyson Chandler, a Knicks team that didn't do anything except draft J.J. Hickson 2.0 in Jordan Hill, and the very Phoenix team that Ferry clowned by dumping Ben Wallace and Sasha Pavlovic.Yeah, you tell me what's wrong with this picture. The author's stupidity has been well-established, but RealGM itself failed to even mention the Cavs among 18 teams in a poll asking voters which team had the best offseason. The Toronto Raptors, of all teams, won the vote in a landslide over even listed teams such as the Spurs, Lakers, and Magic, so I guess not being listed in such a credible poll isn't such a bad thing, after all.I would also love to see who else this guy would want the Cavs to acquire with their expiring contracts. Amar'e Stoudemire, who the Warriors couldn't pry away unless they gave up Stephen Curry? Richard Jefferson, who plays the same damn position as the franchise player? Shawn Marion, who does the same? Vince Carter, who the Nets wouldn't give up for just expiring contracts? Lamar Odom, who wouldn't leave the Lakers no matter what? It's one thing to offer criticism. But you're not qualified to offer criticism if you can't offer a better alternative. And this article offers no alternative whatsoever.Guess I won't be visiting RealGM any time soon. And if you are a member of the vast Wine & Gold Nation, then you would be wise to do the same.
