The quality of basketball wasn't quite at the level of 2008 or 2010 (or my kids youth league), but the drama was vintage Celtics vs Lakers. In the end, the Lakers were a smidge less awful than the Celtics. The result - an 88-87 LA victory in overtime. In a game officiated to their benefit (rough), the Celtics took only 5 free throws. None of those FTs came in the second half. They settled for jumper after jumper after jumper... The offense (39% FG) was putrid. Kevin Garnett (12 points, 12 rebounds) was 6-23. Paul Pierce (18 points, 9 rebounds, 7 assists) was 7-18.  Pau Gasol (25 points, 14 rebounds) was a greasy killer. His hustle block on Ray Allen's put-back attempt at the buzzer may have saved the game. Andrew Bynum (16 points, 17 rebounds, 3 blocks) was a force too. Is it me, or does Bynum shuffle his feet a lot? Same old story, the Celtics had no answers for the Lakers length. Kobe Bryant had 12 of his 27 points in the 3rd quarter. Kobe hit some tough shots, but...

Garnett Propels a 47-45 Lead Over the Lakers at the Half

The Celtics played at a breakneck pace to close out the half, converting three consecutive fast breaks to hold on to a 47-45 lead over the Lakers at halftime. The rejuvenated, high-flying Kevin Garnett has eight points and four rebounds, but the numbers don’t reveal the electrifying athleticism behind his multiple slams tonight. Ray Allen [...]

Kevin Garnett speaks about his best friend Paul Pierce passing Larry Bird

Kevin Garnett, when he wants to be, is one of the best interviews in the NBA, maybe the very best. He’s funny, he’s entertaining, he’s colorful and he’s powerfully emotional. After Paul Pierce passed Larry Bird for second place on the Celtics all-time scoring list, Garnett spoke at length yesterday about his friendship with The Truth.A transcript follows.On...

Celtics start game with long snap

Boston Celtic Kevin Garnett takes the ball off the opening tip off and gives Rondo the long snap. Every time you check your email, think -- gotta check Bob's Blitz. Follow us on Twitter.... Full story at Bob's Blitz ~ http://www.bobsblitz.com

Raptors 86, Celtics 74: Make it two straight hideous defeats

The Boston Celtics took more than two minutes to score, and when they did, their first two points were the result of a bogus foul call. An off-balance Kevin Garnett jump shot bounded off the backboard and almost smacked Mickey Mouse, chilling on his couch down in Florida, more than 1,000 miles away, straight between the eyes, but Garnett was sent to the foul line and made both free...

Boston Celtics hiked the ball through their legs after tip-off (Video)

If you saw the opening tipoff for the Celtics-Lakers game Thursday night, then the outcome may have felt like karma. After the Celtics won the tip, Kevin Garnett hiked the ball between his legs to Rajon Rondo, who then hiked the ball to himself. I don’t know if unconventional move was a nod to the Patriots players in attendance or what, but it was pretty funny. Probably would...

The Celtics start the game with a long snap (Video)

Hey, would you look at that. The Celtics just made football season last a little longer. Kevin Garnett long snaps the ball back to Rajon Rondo, who does a baby snap to himself. How whimsical! I figure this is the basketball equivalent to starting off your long, at-times-entertaining, but flaw-exposing speech with a punchy joke. Kudos, Ball Don’t Lie

Lakers Get Gritty Win In Boston

Getty Images | Stephen DunnThe Lakers and the Celtics may be rivals. They may hate each other for as long as the NBA has existed, to eons into the future. This season, however, they have more in common than any two adversaries in the league could be. Their records are almost identical, with the Lakers at 15-11 and the Celtics with14-11. They both dominate the league in unsexier categories...

Celtics pay tribute to the Patriots by...long snapping the tipoff?

Many of the NFL's runner-up (ugh) New England Patriots were in attendance for the Celtics-Lakers game tonight at the Garden. Kevin Garnett and the Celtics decided to pay tribute to Belichick & Co. by long-snapping the opening tipoff to Rajon Rondo to start the game. The strangest part is that Rondo then decided to snap it through the legs to himself, which by NBA...

Celtics work on their long-snapping after winning tip-off against Lakers

The Lakers and Celtics squared off in a Thursday night matchup at the TD Garden, and a couple of the Boston players chose the moments immediately following the tip-off to hone their long-snapping skills.  Jermaine O’Neal won the tip back to a waiting Kevin Garnett, who proceeded to spin and hike the ball to Rajon Rondo some 30-feet behind him.  Rondo then snapped the ball...

For Old time’s Sake…Lakers scrape by the Celtics 88-87

If “those who are late do not get fruitcup” then the baksetball equivalent would be “those who do not rebound do not get wins”. The Los Angeles Lakers annihilated the Boston Celtics on the boards (55-45) in a classic overtime game and came away with an 88-87 victory. Kobe Bryant led all scorers with 27 points but it was the inside play of the Lakers bigs...

Doc, Pierce, KG & Ray Post Game Pressers vs. Lakers

Doc Rivers looked defeated after his team met that fate against the Lakers. Kevin Garnett was left off the All-Star team for the first time in over a decade. Paul Pierce missed his chance to nail the game-winner. Ray Allen was open on the last play of regulation, but Pierce couldn’t get him the ball.

Enemy Chatter: KG was repeatedly allowed to miss shots

I often wonder what opposing teams, their beat reporters and bloggers are saying about the Celtics after playing the Celtics. Here's a dose of 'enemy chatter' from Los Angeles. The Lakers survived because the Celtics couldn't take advantage of another weak offensive output. Ray Allen hit some shots early, and one big three late, but Paul Pierce could only manage...

Dirk Nowitzki, Paul Pierce All-Stars; runs end for Kevin Garnett, Tim Duncan

NEW YORK — Dirk Nowitzki's streak survives, despite one of the worst seasons of his career. Two other old stars are no longer All-Stars. Nowitzki was chosen Thursday to his 11th straight All-Star game, with coaches overlooking the lowest scoring average since his second NBA season in favor of his ...

Five first-time NBA All-Stars among 14 reserves

NEW YORK (AP) -- Dirk Nowitzki and Paul Pierce overcame slow starts to return to the All-Star game, but the lengthy runs of Kevin Garnett and Tim Duncan are over.
