AP Photo/Chris CarlsonThe Lakers were able to defeat the Charlotte Bobcats and extend their winning streak to 3 games. With Pau back in the lineup the team was still not able to successfully run their half-court offense when both Pau and Dwight were in the game together. They got away with doing that tonight, but if the Lakers really want to win a championship they will need to find a way to have both Gasol and Howard on the floor during crunch time.In a strange game, the Lakers had the lead, lost it, then stormed back in the 4th quarter to re-capture the lead from the Bobcats. Lakers are off until Saturday against the Golden State Warriors and hope to have Steve Nash back in the lineup. Hopefully, these extra days off will allow the team to practice more and correct some of the mental errors that have plagued them all year (i.e. turnovers). Here are the grades for Tuesday night’s W:Chris Duhon: DDuhon kills this team defensively as Laker Nation saw what happened when Darius Morris replaced him in the second half.Kobe Bryant: B+Another 30 point night for the Mamba, along with 6 boards and 7 assists as well. Kobe facilitated very well early and shot this team back into the game after they fell behind by 18 in the second half. Always nice to have a future Hall of Famer close out close games for your team.Metta World Peace: B-Tough shooting night from Metta, but his hustle and defense was key to the Lakers completing their comeback.Pau Gasol: BPau had a little more bounce in his step, but he still can’t seem to find his role in this system. Pau played great defense, though, and as he gets back into game shape, he will help this Lakers team even more on both sides of the court.Dwight Howard: B+Take away the 5 turnovers and Dwight’s stats are very nice. Pau back in the lineup does not space the floor much, but it helps Dwight out on defense and on the boards.Jodie Meeks: B+Jodie gets extended minutes and makes the most of the opportunity. When Jodie is able to catch and shoot in rhythm, there really aren’t many better shooters in this league. The best part is, he will only get better once Steve Nash returns.Darius Morris: A-The biggest reason the Lakers were able to come back from their 18 point deficit was because of Darius Morris and his pressure defense. Darius was instant energy and his defense on Ramon Sessions and Kemba Walker was fantastic down the stretch. As Darius progresses this year, don’t be surprised if Darius becomes Steve Nash’s backup to provide defense and energy for this team. The post Report Card: Bobcats @ Lakers appeared first on Laker Nation.

Both Gasol and Nash practice, near return

The Lakers received a bit of good news Monday as Pau Gasol and Steve Nash participated in a light, noncontact practice. Gasol (knee tendinitis) isn't officially cleared to play Tuesday night when the Lakers host the Charlotte Bobcats, but he should be able to return from an eight-game absence if he suffers no ill effects from Monday's workout. Nash is shooting to play in...

POTD 12/16/12: Nick Young on Dwight Howard

Lost in the Lakers’ blowout victory in Philly was a huge night from Swaggy P.  Filling in for leading scorer Jrue Holiday, Nick Young went off for a season-high 30 points, and on a respectable 12-23 from the floor.  Swaggy did the majority of his damage from the outside… he knocked down six three-pointers and a variety of other jump shots, but he also managed to throw down...

Steve Nash Thinks He’ll Return On Christmas vs. Knicks

Steve Nash worked through his first full-contact practice with the Lakers since suffering a non-displaced leg fracture in the second game of the season. After Thursday morning’s practice, Nash said, “It felt pretty good.  It went well.  Maybe I felt a little bit better than I thought I’d feel, but we’ll see how it feels in the morning.  It’s obviously a big barometer...

Pau Gasol Will Start Tonight vs. Bobcats

Earlier then expected, Pau Gasol will return to the lineup tonight against the Bobcats after missing the last nine games with tendinitis in his knees. Mike D’Antoni says @paugasol will start tonight. He responded well to practice yesterday. LAL were 3-5 w/out Gasol. — Mike Trudell (@LakersReporter) December 18, 2012

Video: NBA Dunk of the Year (So Far): Gerald Henderson on Dwight Howard

Gerald Henderson did his best Blake Griffin last night, laying down this righteous dunk on Dwight Howard: Big up: Rumors and Rants

Video: Bobcats' Henderson puts Dwight Howard on a poster

Lakers' Dwight Howard is perhaps the most dominant defensive center in the NBA. This season he is averaging 2.6 blocks, and is pretty much an intimidating force in the paint for any would-be opponent daring enough to go the the rim for the basket. But last night, Bobcats' Gerald Henderson scoffed at Howard's reputation and proceeded to annihilate Howard in the fourth...

Ricky Rubio feels the Lakers are mistreating Pau Gasol

Add Ricky Rubio to the growing list of people who feel like the Los Angeles Lakers are not getting the most out of Pau Gasol this season. Since Mike D’Antoni took over in L.A. several weeks ago, there have been questions about whether or not Gasol is a fit in his offense. Rubio feels as though Gasol has given the team plenty and is not seeing any reciprocation. “Pau Gasol has...

Gasol Finds D'Antoni System Tougher Than Playing With Howard

Dunk of the night: Gerald Henderson on Dwight Howard

The Lakers now have three wins in a row beating the Charlotte bobcats 101-100. Break out the confetti – and they did Tuesday night at Staples but they do that for every home win. Pau Gasol was back in the line up and was one rebound shy of a double-double with ten points and 9 [...]

Andrew Bynum Says Kobe Bryant Stunted His Play, Warns It Could Happen Again With Dwight Howard

Andrew Bynum is 7 feet tall and supposed to be one of the NBA’s best centers. Instead, he’s spent most of this season working back from knee injuries amidst reports that he’d rather be bowling (which complicated one of the knee injuries) or just not playing basketball at all. Still, Bynum has apparently found some room to throw stones when it comes to explaining why his career...

NBA Player Power Rankings: The Narrative

You see them weekly, during a standard NBA-themed google-machine internet session: Power-Rankings. And while most websites use journalists and experts to make their selections with helpful tools like “statistics,” “analytics” and “actual performance during the basketball games,” I prefer to rank players based on a different metric: storylines. The Association is...

Laker Nation Roundtable: We Predict the Lakers Future

Jordan Grant: With the talent the Lakers have, the injuries they’ve faced, the adjustments they’ve had to make, and their overall lack of effort so far, there is no doubt the Lakers have hit their bottom. The team continues to show us glimpses of what they are capable of, followed by long streaks of effortless play, only to try and comeback and win games. This is a pattern that...

Stern wants to eliminate hack-a strategies

The Magic, of all teams, kicked off a debate that has been plaguing the NBA since Gregg Popovich started fouling Shaquille O'Neal, or maybe the strategy even dates back to Wilt Chamberlain and his famous clanking ability from the so-called charity stripe. From a strategy perspective, it makes sense. If Howard is shooting only 49.2 percent from the foul line, the risk that...
