Doc Rivers is back in Boston, temporarily, for a charity event he has been promoting for the past few days. As part of his role as co-chair of Action for Boston Community Development’s Hoop Dreams event, Rivers has been been making the local media rounds and, little by little, opening up on his true feelings about his time and departure from Boston. Rivers hewed to the Celtics’ company line for the most part immediately following his move to Los Angeles, only really disputing Danny Ainge‘s contention that Rivers’ leaving to coach the Clippers was Rivers’ decision first, last and foremost. In a question-and-answer session at Hoop Dreams on Wednesday night, Rivers basically stayed away from more controversial aspects of his departure — but he did drop some truth on one incident during his tenure that still rubs some Celtics fans the wrong way. No matter how much Bostonians admire Jeff Green for his work to come back from heart surgery, a sizable contingent still simmers at the 2011 tr...

Doc Rivers Returns to TD Garden for Hoop Dreams Charity Event (Photo)

A familiar face was back on the TD Garden parquet Wednesday night. Former Celtics coach Doc Rivers was back in Boston to take part in Hoop Dreams, an annual charity basketball tournament that supports Action for Boston Community Development. Your Morning Dump… Where Doc’s out to kill us all

Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here… highlighting the big storyline. Because there’s nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump.  Rivers acknowledged that the 2011 Kendrick Perkins-Jeff Green trade was a mistake that ultimately hurt Garnett. “I think so,” reflected Rivers, “because we needed the toughness. The one thing we did by...

Doc Rivers: I wish Boston got to know Kevin Garnett more

Former Celtics coach Doc Rivers wishes the city of Boston got to know one of their former stars, Kevin Garnett, better. “Fans never got to see Kevin’s personality,” the Los Angeles Clippers coach said, via WEEI.com.

Doc Rivers admits Kendrick Perkins trade was a mistake

When it went down Celtics fans were up in arms — Boston traded Kendrick Perkins to Oklahoma City mainly for Jeff Green. Danny Ainge’s name suddenly came with a new adjective for Boston fans and it’s one we can’t repeat here. Since then Boston has defended the trade and as Perkins’ production has slipped some of the anger dissipated. Doc Rivers now admits it was a mistake...

Doc Rivers to Chris Paul/Blake Griffin, “Get off commercials and onto the court”

This year will be the first year that Doc Rivers will be coaching the Los Angeles Clippers and apparently, he wants to see two of his big stars less on commercials and more on the basketball court. Doc Rivers wanted Pierce to retire a Celtic, disagreed with Perk trade

Doc Rivers was like most Celtics fans, he wanted to see Paul Pierce retire a Celtic. Doc was recently in town for a charitable basketball event for ABCD and spoke about a few C’s topics, including the trades of The Captain and fan favorite Kendrick Perkins. After last season general manager Danny Ainge was at a crossroads: keep his aging, fading superstars of Pierce and KG or...

In interview in China, KG talks Rondo, coming back to Boston and more

It's a good thing Kevin Garnett is promoting a new shoe in China. Garnett has never really been one to speak openly about his emotions about current or former teammates, unless it's in some battle-fueled rant about kicking ass or bar fights. He is even more reclusive in the offseason, often quietly walking off into the sunset without a peep until the next season starts....

KG talks about his time in Boston, his new team and more with Sina

During his current trip to China to promote the Anta KG4, Kevin Garnett talked about his new coach, Jason Kidd, the differences between Boston & Brooklyn and much more. Garnett told Sina’s Li Shuangfu that his return to Boston will be “emotional” and “similar to when I returned to Minnesota.”  He went on to say “my years in Boston will never be forgotten… I will...

Kevin Garnett has been mentoring Rondo on how to lead Celtics

Over the past two years there seemed to be a story line in Boston over whether or not Rajon Rondo was the best player on the Boston Celtics. As Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce started to show signs of decline Rondo was able to really find a foothold in the league and especially within the construct of what the Celtics did on the court. The leadership came primarily from Garnett Pierce...

Kevin Garnett Says He Showed Rajon Rondo How To Lead Celtics

The Boston Celtics are Rajon Rondo’s team now, and according to his mentor, Rondo is ready to lead. As Kevin Garnett explained to the media, “he taught Rondo how to lead by example.” “About leadership. I feel like one of the things I always tried to stress to him is, when you’re a leader, you lead by example. It’s not a lot about what you say, it’s a lot about what...

Rajon Rondo might be leaving Nike

Former Celtic and now former Adidas spokesperson Kevin Garnett recently signed with the Chinese sportswear company ANTA, ending his career long deal with Adidas. While on promo duty overseas he gave some key nuggets on a number of topics, which is a real rarity with the extremely private KG. Is Rajon Rondo soon to also join ANTA with KG? According to Dime Magazine, Rondo is up for...
