You learn something new everyday. When Metta World Peace was searching for a team to sign with after being amnestied by L.A., he briefly considered signing with the disciplined and boring San Antonio Spurs. Wow, I can only imagine World Peace and Popovich interacting on the bench, but according to reports, it almost happened. According Project Spurs via Daniel Artest, World Peace and Popovich had a mutual interest in one another. “I finally met Popovich, told him I was a big Spurs fan and he said he always liked Ron on his team,’’ Artest said. “I relayed the message, tried to convince [World Peace], but my brother didn’t believe me.’’ That would have been some huddle.  I get the feeling though World Peace would have actually responded to Pop.

Pop always wanted Metta on Spurs?

Metta World Peace has bounced around the league, but he's never played for the Spurs. It sounds like Gregg Popovich wishes Metta had.

Gregg Popovich Always Wanted Metta World Peace On Spurs

San Antonio Spurs: Best and Worst Off-Season Moves

San Antonio Spurs: Best and Worst Off-Season Moves By Anthony Groves: Hoopstuff Writer… Best: Signing Marco Belinelli This is one of the most underrated moves of this off-season. Last season, he shot 39%, in an offense that struggled without their floor general, but he did shoot 36% from three, so he helped their floor spacing. Belinelli’s playing style is perfect for the Spurs’...

Popovich wanted Metta World Peace to become a Spur

Crazy, how the most insane NBA players are always wanted on the top NBA teams. I don't know what it is, maybe it is their swagger, their demeanor, or even the toughness they bring to the court. I just see them as train wrecks that bring their teams to the ground (look at what happened to JR Smith after he elbowed Jason Terry). As for Metta World Peace, to me, has played a little...

Video: Kawhi Leonard highlight mix

People say that a leopard doesn’t change its spots.  Coach Gregg Popovich has long been known for trusting young players like non-Catholics trusted the Spanish Inquisition. Come playoff time, young players have been known to have a nice warm seat on the end of the bench watching “the Big Three” of Manu Ginobili, Tim Duncan and Tony Parker carry the team. In his two...

Report: De Colo suffers minor injury, will be ready for exhibition play for Team France

According to the French website Franceinfo.fr, San Antonio Spurs guard Nando De Colo was withheld from practicing with the French national team Thursday due to an undisclosed injury. However, De Colo is still expected to play in France's first exhibition game on Friday against Finland. While the first warm-up match at Eurobasket 2013 is scheduled on Friday, Nando De Colo...

Ginobili confident Argentina will qualify for World Cup

San Antonio Spurs guard Manu Ginobili was in South America with Basketball Without Borders in his home country of Argentina and recently even put his coaching hat on to help young players. While part of the tour, Ginobili took time out to talk about the upcoming FIBA Americas Championship and qualifying for the 2014 World Cup with Argentinian site telam.com. Ginobili, who...

For Belinelli it's all about the NBA championship

San Antonio Spurs' Marco Belinelli, despite playing in 360 NBA games over six seasons, is a postseason novice.   Cory Joseph, 21, has appeared in two more playoff games than the 27-year-old Belinelli (18). That isn't entirely Belinelli's fault -- the 2010-11 New Orleans Hornets and 2012-13 Chicago Bulls, respectively, weren't exactly equipped to make deep...

Gregg Popovich wanted Metta World Peace on the Spurs?

It wouldn’t be a week here on That NBA Lottery Pick without a post about Metta World Peace and recently, Metta’s brother Daniel dropped an interesting comment during an interview with the New York Post. Apparently, Daniel met Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich one day and Pop expressed a want to have Metta on his squad: “I finally met Popovich, told him I was a big Spurs fan and...

Report: Oden to make decision this weekend

The San Antonio Spurs have one roster spot left heading into next season and it possibly could be filled by center Greg Oden. There has been numerous reports linking the Spurs (among other teams) as possibly Oden's next stop in his NBA career.  Reports state the Pelicans and Heat are the frontrunners, however, the Spurs are still in the mix for the big man's services...

Report: Brett Brown made 'strong impression' with 76ers

The Philadelphia 76ers are the lone NBA team that has still yet to hire a head coach. While new reports have surfaced about the candidates still in contention, San Antonio Spurs assistant coach Brett Brown has been rumored to be one of the favorites since last month.    In the latest report from Yahoo! Sports, Portland Trail Blazers assistant coach David Vanterpool has...

Report: Blair signing with Mavs not a done deal

Dallas Mavericks’ fans jumped for joy and screamed to the havens – probably – today after former San Antonio Spurs backup center gave the impression via Twitter that he would be making the 275 mile trip north to join the team. Dallas!!!!! Now lets have some fun!!!! — DeJuan Blair (@DeJuan45) July 30, 2013 That “excitement” lasted only for approximately five...

Report: Richards to play basketball in Dubai next season

According to James Dugdale, a strength and conditioning coach, San Antonio Spurs 2010 draftee Ryan Richards will be playing somewhere in Dubai next season after winning a championship with BC Vienna of the Austrian League in his last season. Also, heading down South shortly for another week with Ryan Richards before he heads off for a season in Dubai. — James Dugdale...

Spurs release seven-game preseason spate

The San Antonio Spurs, four months removed from a jarring loss in the seventh game of the NBA Finals, will return to the AT&T Center for a preseason tune up against Russian powerhouse CSKA Moscow on Oct. 9.    The official seven-game preseason spate includes three other home games against the Phoenix Suns (Oct. 13, 1:30 p.m.), Orlando Magic (Oct. 22, 7:30 p.m.) and...

Real Madrid told to raise their bid as Spurs accept star is set to quit

Daniel Levy will reluctantly bow to Gareth Bale’s desire to leave Tottenham if Real Madrid offer a world record £85million — plus a player. The Spurs chairman’s stance has shifted after Bale decided during the Barclays Asia Trophy in Hong Kong that he wants to move to the Bernabeu. Levy has maintained throughout the summer that his star asset will not be sold — and he still...
