The New York Knicks are nearing an agreement to sign unrestricted free agent J.R. Smith.
According to the New York Daily News, the agent for Smith, Leon Rose, met with Knicks owner James Dolan following Wednesday's game to finalize contract terms.
The Knicks have the inside track to sign Smith - a target of several clubs - because they are able to offer him a $2.5 million exception.
Rose is also the agent for Knicks superstar Carmelo Anthony, who was a team of Smith's in Denver.
Smith, who signed a contract to play in China during the lockout, has spent the past five seasons with the Denver Nuggets, averaging between 12.3 and 15.4 points per game in that span.
