According to league sources, Wolves president of operations Flip Saunders has had a conversation with the Celtics about Garnett.
Who initiated the talks, in whom the Celtics might have an interest on the Wolves and whether Garnett would waive his no-trade clause to come to Minnesota are unknown.
One source characterized the talks as Saunders just doing his due diligence in the event that a new contract can’t be worked out with restricted free agent centerNikola Pekovic.
Pekovic and Garnett are not mutually exclusive. In fact, it could be easy to see the two co-exist. But the source was adamant that Garnett was more of a contingency plan.

This is something I brought up a few days ago. It’s the only non-contender KG might consider. If he gets one last go-round with Minnesota, playing along side Kevin Love, he might take some satisfaction in helping them get to the playoffs.
Maybe he won’t. It’s hard to say with KG. H...

MINNEAPOLIS -- Thursday, a few hours before the NBA Draft, the Minnesota Timberwolves eclipsed the initial hurdle toward retaining the services of a key asset already in the fold.
The team announced in a press release it's extended the 6,046,500 qualifying offer on Nikola Pekovic's contract, officially making him a restricted free agent when July 1 roles around. That day...
MINNEAPOLIS -- The Minnesota Timberwolves' 2012-13 injury woes afforded Dante Cunningham an opportunity, one he's parlayed into at least one more year with the organization.
The Timberwolves exercised their 2.2 million option on the forward Friday, an expected move following a season where he tallied a career-high 8.7 points and 5.1 rebounds per game. The four-year pro averaged...
The Minnesota Timberwolves have a new wing in former Illinois guard Brandon Paul. BP3 got a call from the T’Wolves Thursday night right after the draft. Paul went undrafted despite being invited to the NBA Combine in Chicago. The Timberwolves signed him to their summer league squad. He will head to Minnesota Timberwolves headquarters next week and then head to NBA Summer League...
There was a lot of confusion when Trey Burke was selected No. 9 overall by the Minnesota Timberwolves in the NBA Draft on Thursday. Minnesota already has Ricky Rubio at point guard, so why would they also want Burke? It turns out they didn’t; they quickly traded Burke. Minnesota dealt Burke to the Utah Jazz [...]
MINNEAPOLIS -- Minnesota Timberwolves forward Andrei Kirilenko will wait until after Thursday night's NBA Draft to decide his future with the team, his agent said.
The 6-foot-9, 234-pound forward has until Saturday to exercise the 10.2 million player option on his contract for next season. Or, he can simply let the deadline pass and begin considering a future -- and likely the...
Gorgui Dieng was selected as the 21st pick in the first round of the NBA Draft by the Utah Jazz, but he won’t be heading to Salt Lake City anytime soon. As expected, the rights to Dieng have been traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Minnesota has traded Trey Burke, who they drafted with the ninth overall pick to the Utah Jazz in exchange for the rights to Gorgui Dieng and Shabazz...
MINNEAPOLIS -- Finally, Gordon Malone was exhibiting what resembled shades of his West Virginia self.
In 2008, Malone scored more than 35 points in back-to-back games, brushing past helpless defenders and making good use of his 6-foot-11 frame like he did so often in the old Big East.
But this was in a summer, pseudo-street ball league in New York dubbed Pro City, nowhere near the...
NC State junior point guard Lorenzo Brown has been selected by the Minnesota Timberwolves. Brown was picked No. 52 overall in the 2013 NBA Draft.
MINNEAPOLIS -- Like so many Minnesota Timberwolves' contests last season, their route in this year's NBA Draft carries an aura of predictability.
The franchise's injury woes and shortcomings of 2012-13 rang as apparent as its needs entering Thursday's draft, where the Timberwolves have two picks in each round.
The difference: there's hope here, hope that was...
As he prepares to make the jump from college to the pros, Shabazz Muhammad has told his famously involved father to take a seat on the bench.
Muhammad was introduced at a news conference Friday, one day after the Minnesota Timberwolves acquired him with the 14th overall draft pick.
Muhammad's father, Ron Holmes, was heavily involved in his basketball upbringing. But Holmes...
MINNEAPOLIS -- If Flip Saunders used yesterday's pre-draft press conference to mislead any general managers or media out there, there's only half a bluff to call.
And that's assuming Tuesday's reports of the Timberwolves' interest in trading for Brooklyn Nets shooting guard MarShon Brooks have any substance.
According to the New York Daily News,Minnesota and...
FINALLY! One of the best days of the year. How can you not absolutely love it? A saturation of roster moves, new faces and players, and Flip Saunders will make his first player acquisitions as President of Basketball Operations. I can't wait. For better of worse. My colleague TCSnyder and I have been fired up for days now and recently took some time throughout the past...
