NEW YORK-- Centers will no longer be guaranteed a spot in the NBA All-Star game.
NBA.com is reporting that the league will announce a change to its All-Star ballot on Wednesday, removing the center position. Fans will be required to vote for three frontcourt players, instead of two forwards and a center.
The change makes sense with fewer teams relying on a traditional center anymore. Tim Duncan has long played as the Spurs' center even though he's listed as a forward on the Western Conference ballot, and the Miami Heat won the championship last season with forward Chris Bosh playing as their center.
The All-Star game is Feb. 17 in Houston.

The San Antonio Spurs won their first NBA championship in a lockout shortened season and then Lakers coach Phil Jackson famously labeled it an asterisk championship. The Lebron James era of the Miami Heat‘s first championship also came during a lockout shortened season. Clearly one of the writers on the ABC comedy, “Happy Endings” has [...]
With players like Duncan, KG, and Lebron playing multiple positions it was only a matter of time.
At what point to the San Antonio Spurs finally move on, close the window and begin life post-Three Amigos? It's going to happen eventually.
Just not this season.
The Spurs, for those who have forgotten, have forged the best regular-season record in the Western Conference the last two years. Though that doesn't guarantee anything in the playoffs, obviously, it does indicate...

In the 2003 NBA draft, the first five picks were LeBron James, Darko Milicic, Carmelo Anthony, Chris Bosh and Dwayne Wade. Now that’s a great top 5! Probably as good as you will ever see!
