Rajon Rondo has made two additions to his life. “The bike has become my friend” the Celtics point guard said yesterday during media day referring to of one of his primary means of rehabilitating from ACL surgery. It’s not out of the question that his new coach Brad Stevens could join Rondo on a tandem bike ride someday soon. “Me and Brad have become best friends” Rondo said with an easy smile. “We talk every day and laugh and joke. We just had dinner the other night.” Rondo held that smile a bit longer than normal as if to convey a point. He knows what many think — that he grinds the gears on his coaches. And he doesn’t care about that reputation. “When I’m away I hibernate. I don’t pay too much attention to what the media said about me” Rondo said of speculation that he would be a handful for the rookie NBA coach from Butler University. “(Stevens) is the same as me — you can’t control the media. He’s been open and honest. What people say is different from when you cross these lines. The coach and I are off to a great start and we will continue to stay along those lines. I respect him as a man and as the coach of this organization.” Rondo was asked if said reputation bothered him. If it did he naturally wouldn’t admit it. “It doesn’t bother me” he said. “The coach didn’t come in with a negative attitude painting an image of me from what the media has said. If I have my teammates’ respect and my coaches’ respect that’s all I can ask for. Everybody else really doesn’t know me.” Rondo has good reason to feel this comfortable. He may have gone into knee surgery with a goal of emulating Adrian Peterson’s lightning-fast return but he came out understanding why the Bulls’ Derrick Rose is guarding his health. Danny Ainge “guessed” that Rondo may not play until December and Rondo did little to alter that time frame. “In the 2013-2014 season. Sometime in the winter maybe the fall you just don’t know” he said of when that first appearance might come. Rondo understands though that Stevens plans to accommodate his absence as much as possible. The Celtics coach said yesterday he has a definite offensive style in mind for this team featuring spacing and lots of movement.
