Boston Celtics Coach Doc Rivers gave his take on the Lakers' coaching change to Chris Russo (SirusXM's Mad Dog Radio) on Tuesday, criticizing the organization for their handling of Phil Jackson. "I didn't like the way it was done," said Rivers. "I don't think you embarrass anybody." After relieving Mike Brown of his coaching duties, the Lakers had initial talks with Jackson. While the team's former coach (and 11-time NBA champion) was mulling over the possibilities, the Lakers instead hired Mike D'Antoni for the job. "Whether you like Phil or not, he's won a lot of titles and I think he was owed more than that treatment, in my opinion, especially from that franchise," continued Rivers. Recently General Manager Mitch Kupchak told The Times, "We knew that there would be a ridiculous amount of criticism for making this decision but it was clearly and only a basketball decision." The Lakers had concerns about how w...

Doc Rivers: Lakers embarrassed Phil Jackson, he was owed more than that

The Los Angeles Lakers’ coaching change situation that took place a little over a week ago was about as bizarre as it gets. The fact that it occurred just a handful of games into the regular season made it even stranger. As you know, the Lakers eventually settled on Mike D’Antoni as their next head coach after firing Mike Brown. Whether D’Antoni was the right choice or not...

So, This GIF of Phil Jackson Draining a Long-Range Sky Hook Exists

Well, I’m sure Phil woud have appreciated this GIF surfacing about a week ago when the Lakers were reviewing their possible coaching candidates. I mean seriously, how could you not hire THAT guy? Whistle? Check. Polo? Check. Dad jeans? Check. Awkward long-range sky hook? Swish. Job offer? Accepted. The only thing missing here is for Phil to drop the mic and walk straight out of...

Doc says Darko is free to go

On WEEI's Dennis and Callahan show this morning, Celtics head coach Doc Rivers discussed the state of the team, and had this to say about Darko Milicic: "It's up to him right now. He has some family issues, more his mom. Not playing, and being in another country, and the NBA hasn't gone exactly great for him over his career. So, it's a lot of reasons for him...

Doc Rivers admits he told the Boston Celtics to help keep Rajon Rondo’s streak alive

During the waning moment’s of yesterday’s lopsided loss to the Detroit Pistons, Doc Rivers told his team it was obviously going to lose. And then he encouraged his players to help Rajon Rondo in keeping his double-digit assists streak alive. (CSNNE)“Why not? You guys keep talking about it, so I figured give him a shot at it.”“When I called a time-out,” Rivers recalled...

For Rivers, Another Reunion With The One That Never Was

If you thought the Ray Allen-Boston Celtics drama is tops on Doc Rivers' list on his worst negotiating failures, think again. Rivers still recalls as a “bigger failure” from 12 years ago to Rob Bradford from WEEI.com Green Street: “I lost a bigger one, and probably learned a lot of lessons from that. Tim Duncan in Orlando,” he said. “We never had him, but I...

Doc Rivers Admits He Kept Rajon Rondo In During Blowout To Keep Assists Streak Alive

Doc Rivers and the Celtics are catching some heat this morning for what some are perceiving as a selfish act. The question is who was the selfish perpetrator. Magic Johnson owns the record for consecutive games with double-digit assist with 46 straight. Last night the Celtics were blown out by 20 points in Detroit. Rondo [...] [[ This is a content summary only. Visit my website...

Lakers Rumors: Lakers’ Mike D’Antoni Expected to Make Debut This Week

One of the many mind-boggling things about the whole Los Angeles Lakers decision to hire Mike D’Antoni over Phil Jackson is the fact that D’Antoni is still recovering from knee replacement surgery. D’Antoni was expected to make his debut on Sunday against the Houston Rockets but was unable to be on the sidelines pushing his [...] [[ This is a content summary only. Visit my...

Milicic may be leaving NBA for good

Doc Rivers saw a change in Darko Milicic a few weeks ago, almost as soon as the veteran center found out that his mother was ill. It was one thing for Milicic to deal with some professional setbacks with the Celtics, having played a grand total of five minutes all season. Adding personal angst made it even tougher. "His mom's sick, he's not playing, the homesickness...

Darko Milicic’s Time With Celtics ‘Most Likely’ Finished, Team in ‘No Rush’ to Add Another Big Man

WALTHAM, Mass. — Doc Rivers saw a change in Darko Milicic a few weeks ago, almost as soon as the veteran center found out that his mother was ill. It was one thing for Milicic to deal with some professional setbacks with the Celtics, having played a grand total of five minutes all season. Adding personal angst made it even tougher. “His mom’s sick, he’s not playing, the homesickness...

Rondo The Silent Killer: YOUR 2012-2013 NBA MVP

I just got back from an 8-hour drive this Saturday with only one thing on my mind…except for a couple X-rated things. I just wanted to sit on my couch, watch the Celtics play the not so exciting Raptors. Why would I be so enthralled over one lousy regular season game? The answer has two words. RAJON RONDOOOOOOO.  Man, I haven’t been so excited over a player on the Celtics since...

Bye Bye, Darko

It looks like Darko Milicic will be leaving the Celtics and heading back to Europe, according to Doc Rivers’ quotes from the Dennis and Callahan radio show this morning.  While I think this has little to no effect on the team from a basketball perspective, it’s kind of sad from a fan perspective.  It was fun to hope for the reincarnation of one of the biggest draft busts...

Lakers Injury News: Mike D'Antoni Misses Planned Sunday Debut

The new Los Angeles Lakers' head coach has yet to coach the team.  Mike D'Antoni, who is recovering from knee surgery was set to make his debut last night.  However, he did not coach the team last night because he is not fully recovered from the surgery.  He hopes to make his debut Tuesday.According to Dave McMenamin of ESPN Los Angeles, a combination of pain and fatigue...

Boston and San Antonio: Two of a Kind

Celtics Spurs: one of my favorite NBA match-ups. One that features the two preeminent big men of the new millennia as well as two of the league's best coaches. But the similarities don't end there. Both teams feature a trio of All-Stars who have sacrificed scoring, playing time, and salary for the good of their perspective teams. Doc Rivers has praised Gregg Popovich on...
