NEW ORLEANS -- James Harden scored 17 of his game-high 30 points in the second half to lift the turnover-prone Houston Rockets to a 100-82 victory over the New Orleans Hornets Friday night at the New Orleans Arena. Winning for only the second time in 10 games, the Rockets broke open the game with a 26-11 spurt in a 5:58 stretch of the third quarter to take their biggest lead of the game, 74-55, with 4:09 left in the third period. Harden hit a pair of 3s and added two foul shots and a step-back jumper to key the streak, and Marcus Morris and Toney Douglas each hit 3-pointers. The Rockets made 4 of 6 from long range in the quarter and finished 11 of 21 for the game. Harden was a perfect 12 of 12 from the line, and he led the Rockets in scoring for the 22nd consecutive game. That helped erase 22 Rockets turnovers. The Hornets scored eight straight points to cut the deficit to 76-65, but Jeremy Lin closed the quarter with two foul shots and a layup after a bad inbounds pass, and...

Rockets fire on all cylinders in win over Nets

HOUSTON -- The Houston Rockets are an average team, but they are average in the most tantalizing way. The Rockets never play an average game. They either play great, or they play terribly. Seems like either the Rockets are drilling 3s all night or the other team is. This, perhaps, is an unintended consequence of the way they play. The Rockets like to get out wide and push the pedal...

It’s official, the New Orleans Hornets will be known as the New Orleans Pelicans next season. The official unveiling of the new logo and colors happened today. Red, blue and gold are the color scheme and a menacing – cut me some slack, I’m trying to buy into the notion that them selecting the new moniker is cool – Pelican. I still don’t like it. But, all is not lost for...

New Orleans Pelicans Is Welcome Change of Pace From Unimaginative Nicknames

“Lennay Kekua” and “Diedrich Knickerbocker” would have gotten along famously. In the early 19th century, author Washington Irving generated publicity for his first major book by posting missing persons announcements around New York for Knickerbocker, a Dutch journalist visiting Manhattan. According to Irving, Knickerbocker left his hotel one day and never returned. Fearing...
