Rodrigue Beaubois is a Rajon Rondo-type athlete

Two numbers stick out on Rodrigue Beaubois' scouting report: 6-10 wingspan and 39-inch vertical. As Mavs radio play-by-play man Chuck Cooperstein pointed out, the 6-2, 182-pound Beaubois physically has a lot of similarities with Rajon Rondo. "He's a similar type of athlete with exceptionally long arms, lean and really quick straight ahead and good laterally as well, and a guy who can get up in the air," Rick Carlisle said. "There are going to be comparisons from a body-type standpoint." It's a comparison Beaubois has heard before. "Everybody say Rajon Rondo, but I think I am a better shooter than him," he said in a conference call. "We both have long arms, so I can defend." The hope for Beaubois is that he contributes the next few seasons while acting like a sponge around Jason Kidd. (If the Mavs don't re-sign Kidd, Beaubois' development ranks pretty far down the list of their concerns.) Carlisle wouldn't go so far to project Beaubois as Kidd's eventual replacement a few years down the road, but that's the best-case scenario. "He's going to learn an awful lot in a short period of time," Carlisle said. "Because of his physical abilities, he has a chance to make quantum leaps."
