ATLANTA - Atlanta Hawks coach Larry Drew always sets the goal of making the opponent call the first time out in a game. The Hawks succeeded in that regard and their hot start was the catalyst to their 83-74 victory over the Boston Celtics in Game One of the first round of the playoffs on Sunday. "We got off to a very fast start," Drew said. "I thought we did a good job in pushing the tempo of the game. We said early we really wanted to dictate the rhythm of the game of getting out and running and exploring what we had in transition." The Celtics did not go down without a fight. Despite getting behind by 13 points after one quarter, they got it within 10 points in the third period at the 7:12 mark with a dunk from Avery Bradley off a lob from Rajon Rondo to reduce the margin to 53-43. The Hawks responded with a 9-2 run of their own which made the tally 62-45. But that wasn't enough to kill off the Celtics, who got it as close as 71-66 in t...

After the Rajon Rondo incident last night, everyone wondered what Stern would say about it. Well, he has spoken... at least.. he spoke about it on ESPN Radio:
“I don’t want to pre-judge on what the recommendation is going to be,” Stern said. “But as a fan, he obviously bumped him. And you know what happens with respect to that.” There have been three instances this...

ATLANTA – It had the potential to end differently. It had the potential to mirror other games this weekend where the aggressor ended up getting defeated in a fourth quarter flurry that stunned them. But it didn’t.

Boston GlobeWith Ray Allen (ankle) doubtful and Rajon Rondo suspended, the Celtics are set to go with an Avery Bradley-Mickael Pietrus backcourt against the Hawks in Game 2 of their first-round playoff series Tuesday night.
Bradley struggled in his playoff debut, scoring 10 points on 4-for-12 shooting in an 83-74 loss to the Hawks Sunday.
“I thought he was looking for things, he...
If you were like me and wondering how in the world the Celtics were considering trading Rajon Rondo, you got your answer on Sunday. The guy is said to be difficult to deal with, and he proved he lacks restraint when he bumped a referee during Game 1 between the Celtics and Hawks on Sunday. Here’s video of his unbelievably idiotic play in the final minute of the game:
Boston Celtics guard Rajon Rondo has been suspended for Game 2 of the opening-round playoff series against the Atlanta Hawks.
The NBA announced its decision Monday, less than 24 hours after Rondo stuck out his chest to bump referee Marc Davis while complaining about a call in the final minute of Boston's 83-74 loss in Game 1.
Rondo won't be able to play Tuesday night in...
Celtics jersey... check.
The only thing missing from tonight's playoff opener with the Hawks was... the Celtics. The C's came out flatter than (insert teenage joke here) and could never recover. The result: an 83-74 Hawks victory in Game 1.
It was a story we've seen before. The Celtics dug themselves a mighty big hole in...
For a long time yesterday, the Celtics played about as badly as they could. Kevin Garnett couldn’t hit the ocean if he were throwing an anchor off the side of a boat during the first half. Paul Pierce, ditto, and his struggles continued into half two. Brandon Bass didn’t even take a shot for what seemed like forever, the bench combined for four points in 51 minutes, and the...
Boston Celtics point guard Rajon Rondo has been suspended one game for bumping into referee Marc Davis while arguing a call in Sunday's game against the Atlanta Hawks. The three-time All-Star will miss Tuesday night's game, the second in the best-of-seven series. Rondo was initially called for a technical foul with 41 seconds remaining in the Celtics' 83-74 loss to...
Rajon Rondo’s out, Ray Allen’s out and the Boston Celtics already face a 1-0 series deficit against the Atlanta Hawks. The year of adversity continues for the Celtics tonight as they try to climb yet one more obstacle. Whether it’s a heart issue, season-ending injury, trade rumor or suspension, the Celtics have found a way this season to march on despite an avalanche of setbacks...
The Celtics probably couldn't have started off their series with the Hawks any worse if they tried. Not only did the C's fall in Game 1, but they'll be forced to play Game 2 in Atlanta without their floor general, as Rajon Rondo has been suspended one game for bumping referee Mark Davis late in Sunday's contest. Boston will likely be without Ray Allen again as well...
The official who tossed Rajon Rondo from last night's game is no stranger to controversy, publicity or the Celtics.
Many NBA analysts claim Marc Davis is one of those officials who love and seek out the spotlight. During an appearance this morning on WEEI, disgraced former referee Tim Donaghy said Davis has a large ego and "rabbit ears."
While Rondo was upset...
