With the February 21st trade deadline looming, rumors are flying around the NBA. Will Rudy Gay be traded? Will the Celtics look to add a point guard to replace injured star, Rajon Rondo? In regards to the Orlando Magic, one name keeps surfacing: J.J. Redick. Currently in his 7th season in the NBA, J.J. Redick has improved every year and has become an exceptional perimeter threat. Many teams that are looking for an extra scoring guard will be targeting J.J. before the trade deadline. Orlando Magic GM Rob Hennigan has made it clear that he is looking to acquire rookie contracts and draft picks if any such trade were to go down. With that in mind, here are some trade scenarios that have been designed around current rumors and needs.
Three-way trade between Magic, Raptors, and Grizzlies
Orlando receives: Rookie Terrence Ross from the Raptors, Rookie Tony Wroten from the Grizzlies, and Toronto Raptors 2014 1st round draft pick
Raptors receive: Rudy Gay, Hamed Haddadi and Ishmael Smith
Grizzlies receive: J.J. Redick, Jose Calderon, Amir Johnson, a 2013 2nd round pick from the Raptors, and a 2014 2nd round pick from the Magic
Here is why this trade makes sense for all three teams. Every report we are hearing about the Grizzlies is that they want to trade Rudy Gay for salary tax reasons. This trade allows them to receive expiring contracts for future flexibility while adding a backup PG, SG, and Amir Johnson (whom they reportedly have an interest in). The Raptors would be able to add a go-to scorer marquee player like Rudy Gay. They could move forward with the trio of Kyle Lowry, DeMar DeRozan, and Rudy Gay. The Magic would be cash in J.J.'s expiring contract for two rookies and a future draft pick. If you are saying to yourself, Rudy Gay is way better than all that...he is. Unfortunately, the Grizzlies ownership will not be able to afford the massive tax blows they'll incur with Gay, Randolph, Conley and Gasol over the next few years.
Trade Between Minnesota Timberwolves and Orlando Magic
Orlando receives: Derrick Williams
Minnesota receives: J.J. Redick
This trade has been floating around for a couple of months and kind of makes sense for both teams. J.J. Redick would bolster the weakest position for the Timberwolves and Derrick Williams is very expendable when Kevin Love is healthy. For the Magic, they get a very intriguing prospect in Derrick Williams. The second year player hasn't had a chance to really prove himself at the professional level, but has the skillset to be a fantastic player. Of course, the Magic frontcourt is already teeming with players, which is why this isn't my favorite scenario.
Three-way trade between Magic, Bulls, and Celtics
Orlando receives: Avery Bradley, Marquis Teague, and Jason Collins
Chicago receives: Jason Terry and Leandro Barbosa
Boston receives: J.J. Redick, Kirk Hinrich, and Nazr Mohammad
This is perfect for Orlando because they get Avery Bradley who is a proven second year player that looks to be one of the better perimeter defenders in the near future. Marquis Teague is one of the players that Orlando Magic fans thought the Magic should have drafted and gives the Magic a young point guard for the future. Jason Collins is just a throw-in, one year contract. Chicago receives two shooting guards that have both played point guard at some point during their careers. Chicago's biggest weakness over the last few years (minus Derick Rose's ACL) has been their two guard position. This would give them two explosive shooting guards, plus one of them could transition to point guard until Rose comes back. Boston gets the three things that they need: a point guard in Hinrich, J.J. Redick (whom they reportedly covet), and a big man in Nazr Mohammad. This trade is contingent upon whether or not Boston decides to move forward with their current roster or blow it up.
These are a few trade scenarios, but there are a million possibilities (especially with the ESPN trade machine. I'd love to hear some suggestions from the readers, so leave your trade scenarios in the comments section below! The Memphis Grizzlies, Toronto Raptors, and Detroit Pistons made some noise around the NBA Wednesday night as they all agreed on a blockbuster trade that will clearly effect these franchises going forward, not to mention the rest of your fantasy season! The Grizzlies, Raptors and Pistons agreed to a six-player trade Wednesday that sent star swingman Rudy Gay to Toronto. The Grizzlies...
The Raptors could have drafted Rudy Gay in 2006 with the first overall selection.
There may not be a player in the league with a more uncertain future than J.J. Redick. Yes, Rudy Gay might get traded and Boston has no idea where that team might go after Rajon Rondo's injury. Before the season though, no player seemed more certain to get moved than Redick.
Everyone seemed to recognize that.
That has changed somewhat though as the season has gone on...
If Orlando Magic guard JJ Redick was a fan of Justin Bieber, he would not be the first grown man to have come down with a case of Bieber Fever. The Biebs typically appeals to young girls between the ages of 8 and 15, but there are many exceptions. Redick may have attended Bieber’s concert at the Amway Center in Orland last week, but he insists it was not his choice.
The Rudy Gay trade rumors won't stop. ESPN's Marc Stein reported Monday that the Toronto Raptors are still making a "hard push" for the Grizzlies small forward and are offering Jose Calderon and Ed Davis as part of a package for him.
While the Grizzlies aren't under the gun to trade Gay now that the franchise shed payroll by trading Marreese Speights, Josh...
The first domino before the February 21 trade deadline fell Wednesday when the Grizzlies traded Rudy Gay to the Raptors for Jose Calderon and Ed Davis and then sent Calderon to the Pistons for Tayshaun Prince and Austin Daye.
It was not quite the deal everyone expected for Gay, but it was not totally unexpected that Gay would get moved. Memphis is desperate to get under the tax...
The Memphis Grizzlies, playing for the first time after trading away Rudy Gay, get set to face the Thunder in Oklahoma City tonight. While the Gay swap for Ed Davis, Tayshaun Prince, and Austin Daye saves the tea money and improves depth in the long-run, they’ll be fairly depleted in tonight’s match-up.
AccuScore has the Thunder as heavy favorites with 87.3 percent chance at...
The Pistons will acquire Jose Calderon, with the Grizzlies receiving Tayshaun Prince and Austin Daye in addition to Ed Davis in the Rudy Gay trade that sends him to the Raptors.
According to Marc Stein, ESPN:

Despite a hefty contract, the Toronto Raptors hope the addition of Rudy Gay will help them turn around their season and make a serious push for the playoffs.
The veteran small forward could debut with his new team Friday night when the Raptors look to avoid a fourth straight loss while trying to continue their recent home success against the Los Angeles Clippers.
PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- Marc Gasol scored a season-high 27 points and Rudy Gay had 26 to lead the Memphis Grizzlies to a 103-100 win over the Philadelphia 76ers on Monday night.
Jerryd Bayless scored a season-high 21 points to help the Grizzlies win without point guard Mike Conley. Conley sat out with a sprained left ankle suffered in Sunday's loss to New Orleans.

Nice way to kick off what looks to be a busy trade season for the NBA. Wednesday night saw the Memphis Grizzlies officially trade SF/PF Rudy Gay, sending him to the Toronto Raptors along with C Hamed Haddadi.
