Russell Westbrook has been the media and fans’ whipping boy whenever anything goes wrong with the Thunder.
The criticism of Westbrook goes back to last season when the Thunder lost to the Mavericks in the playoffs. Many observers were watching the All-Star point guard play for the first time, and they were aghast that he didn’t play like a typical point guard. They couldn’t (and some still can’t) comprehend that Westbrook is an elite athlete whose specialty is getting to the hole and scoring, not passing.
Whenever things went wrong for OKC in the playoffs last year, the media and fans blamed Westbrook for not passing to Kevin Durant enough. The criticism has followed the same pattern this postseason.
After Oklahoma City’s Game 2 and 3 losses in the Finals, there were frequent calls for Westbrook to change the way he was playing. People lost their minds and forgot that Westbrook’s style helped the Thunder achieve the third-best record in the NBA and reach the NBA Finals. Once the...

Russell Westbrook wore a jean vest to presser
Now that the Oklahoma City Thunder lost in the NBA Finals and the season is over, we have to send you off with one last look at what Russell Westbrook was wearing to his postgame press conference.
Westbrook showed up to his final presser of the season wearing a jean vest that was cut off at the sleeves, and a pair of glasses. I guess he hopped on his Harley and rode off into the...
Russell Westbrook clubbing it up Wednesday night….Nah, it’s just an OLD pic
This picture was making its round around twitter and the blog with the assumption that it was Russell Westbrook was partying in Miami on the eve of OKC’s elimination game. Fret not, Thunder fans, besides the photo looking like an obvious victim of photoshop, this picture is over a week old. The good folks [...]
Russell Westbrook Should Pay Attention In Huddles
Welcome to RideThePine.com
Did you happen to see one of the final inbounds plays during Game 3 of the NBA Finals between the Oklahoma City Thunder and Miami Heat? It seems that there was a little miscommunication on Russell Westbrook’s behalf. Let’s go back and look at the huddle just prior to the play.
Hey Russell, maybe next time you should pay attention to the clip board...
Russell Westbrook is NOT to blame for Thunder’s loss
Let’s get one thing out of the way. The Oklahoma City Thunder are likely going to lose the NBA Finals. A 104-98 loss to the Miami Heat Tuesday put the Thunder down 3 games to 1. That scenario’s occurred 30 different times in NBA Finals history, and 30 times the team up 3-1 has won the series. I don’t really need the stat to tell me that Miami are clearly...
Westbrook’s Thunder Storms Into Miami, But Team Is Still Wet Behind The Ears
The one thing that the Miami Heat indisputably had on Oklahoma City at the beginning of the NBA Finals was experience and maturity (although with basketball players maturity is always in question…at least off the court). The Thunder’s star players are in their early twenties and new to the pressure of the championship series, while the Heat have been expected to reel in...
Russell Westbrook's Monster Game 4 Effort Goes to Waste After Thunder's Immaturity Shows Down Stretch
The Oklahoma City Thunder are a young team. They may still need to learn how to win close games against elite teams in difficult environments. They could learn something by watching to see how their opponent operates. The Miami Heat prevailed over the Thunder in Game 4 on Tuesday night, 104-98, to push LeBron James one win closer to earning his first-ever NBA championship ring. While...
Westbrook Responds to Detractors, But Can't Work Alone
The subject comes up again because Russell Westbrook is under a barrage of criticism for Oklahoma City's failures. All week, he's been the center of attack, verbal attacks, that is, for his decision-making and shot-selection. Had it not been for him this postseason, the Thunder would not be playing in the 2012 NBA Finals -- to be exact.
Unfair as it is to put heavy burdens...
Westbrook learning like LeBron did
LeBron James was talkative and at ease on the afternoon before his first attempt at a final leap into NBA history. The Miami Heat can close out the Oklahoma City Thunder and the 2012 season tonight at AmericanAirlines Arena, and James didn't merely seem confident that he was about to win his first title. He looked like a man seasoned by his failures, as though he had walked through...
Heat take 3-1 series lead despite Westbrook’s 43 points
LeBron James and the Miami Heat are now only one win away from an NBA Championship.
Despite Russell Westbrook’s 43 points, the Heat went on to a 104-98 victory over the Oklahoma City Thunder giving them a commanding 3-1 series lead, something no other NBA team has been able to overcome in NBA finals history.
LeBron James had 26 points, 12 assists and nine rebounds before being...
Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook Have The Game Of Their Lives Tonight For OKC
The Oklahoma City Thunder have got to find a way to stop the Miami Heat tonight. Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook have their backs against the wall, if they can’t figure out a way to stop LeBron James and the Miami Heat their season will be over the Thunder will fall short of claiming their NBA Championship and LeBron will claim the ring he left Cleveland in search of a few years...
Thunder lead Heat 49-46 at halftime of Game 4
Russell Westbrook scored 18 points, Kevin Durant added 12 and the Oklahoma City Thunder took a 49-46 lead over the Miami Heat into halftime of Game 4 of the NBA Finals on Tuesday night.
LeBron James had 10 points, eight assists and six rebounds at the half for Miami, which also got 10 points from Dwyane Wade.
Fueled by 10 points from Westbrook, Oklahoma City sprinted out to a 33...
Starting 5: Miami on the verge & Westbrook steps up during AND after the game
Every morning, we'll give you five things from the night before in the NBA to start your day.
1: Miami on the verge of a title
The Miami Heat, and LeBron James, are just one game away from an NBA Championship. The Oklahoma City Thunder are a game away from a killer offseason with a lot of "what-if's" rattling around in their heads.
The thing about this series...
Are Only System Point Guards Successful in the NBA?
As I watch the current NBA finals with the Miami Heat vs. Oklahoma City Thunder, most believe that the most interesting matchup has been the Miami “Big Three” vs. the OKC “Big Three.” However, I have always been interested in the matchup between the two starting point guards, Russell Westbrook and Mario Chalmers. Most NBA [...]
James Harden's disappearing act
While much is being made about how Russell Westbrook dribbled away the Thunder's chance at a last second win last night, James Harden should be the one everyone is focused on. He has been largely incommunicado since the Finals began."Those are my stats?!" In last nights loss, Harden scored only eight points on 2-10 field goals and 3-4 freebies. Five of his field goal...
