The Cavaliers waived Samardo Samuels on Sunday, and the hustling big man is already drawing interest from around the league. Both the Brooklyn Nets and Oklahoma City Thunder are among the teams that may be interested, league sources said. Samuels is a 6-foot-9 power forward. He was in his third season with the Cavs after signing as an undrafted free agent in 2010. He appeared in 18 games this year, compiling averages of 3.2 points and 1.6 rebounds. Hes averaged 5.9 points and 3.4 rebounds for his career. He was also playing with a non-guaranteed contract, and was four days away from the contract becoming guaranteed for the rest of the reason -- likely a big reason for the move. Samuels played high school ball with Tristan Thompson at St. Benedicts (N.J.) Prep and was ranked the No. 2 high school player in the nation by Scout.com in 2010. The Cavs now have a roster spot available, and with other teams making similar transactions in the coming days, they could potentially claim someone off waivers or sign a player from the D-League. One possibility is Canton forward JaJuan Johnson, who was recently acquired by the Charge in exchange for former Cavs forward Luke Harangody (and a D-League draft pick). Johnson spent last season with the Boston Celtics. Dribbles The New Orleans Hornets will sign ex-Cavs point guard Donald Sloan, according to multiple reports. Sloan was waived by the Cavs on Christmas Day. With the Hornets, he will be battling for minutes with starter Greivis Vasquez and former Toledo product Brian Roberts, whos played well in limited minutes. Former Ohio State and Houston Rockets guard Daequan Cook has signed with the Chicago Bulls. Cook is 6-5 and has also spent time with Miami and Oklahoma City. He was drafted by Philadelphia following his freshman year of college (2007) with the No. 21 overall pick. The Cavs and Minnesota Timberwolves have had discussions about a possible trade involving center Anderson Varejao, according to a report in the News-Herald. One league source told FOX Sports Ohio the sides were and are nowhere close. Twitter: @SamAmicoFSO
