MVN:
ESPN's Chris Sheridan first reported yesterday, September the 4th, that Milwaukee Bucks' restricted free agent PG Ramon Sessions agreed in signing an offer sheet with the Minnesota Timberwolves. Once he sings the offer sheet, the Bucks will have a week to match which they are not expected to do because they already signed Carlos Delfino as a replacement for Sessions.
The signing of Sessions, most importantly for how much time he'll sign, just proves what almost everybody kind of knew: that Spanish Quarterback Ricky Rubio won't be coming to the NBA in two years but in three and that he most likely won't be playing in Minneapolis because of the new salary rules he would apply if decides to walk into the NBA in the summer of 2012.
Sessions can be considered the last big free agent in the open market that could cause some impact wherever he would have signed however this I didn't see coming. Playing for the 'Wolves, Sessions will make good money but will play for a losing team at least for the upcoming season. The good thing is that Kurt Rambis is expected to install an up-tempo offense where his stats will be inflated so when does get to that fourth year in his contract where he has the opt out option, he'll be 26 and be an even hotter free agent backed up by the numbers.
David Kahn knows he messed up with the Rubio thing but even I have to say that signing Ramon Sessions is kind of home run. The Timberwolves got somebody with experience to play over Johnny Flynn and not rush his transition process, somebody that is more than capable of feeding Kevin Love and Al Jefferson and a PG that will make people forget about Rubio for the nearest future. We shouldn't expect a lot from the Timberwolves for the next season, they will try to attract people by the way they play and not for their ability to compete and with Ramon Sessions in the backcourt they will be able to do just that.
All things considered is a win-win situation: Sessions will help the Timberwolves to get some wins and sell some tickets while the Timberwolves will help him to get some stats, make even more money and maybe sign with a better team in his next free agency summer, three years from now.
