For the region's hockey fans, there's a car-wreck quality to patronizing, however briefly, local sports radio outlet WTEM, where Andy Pollin (of yes that Pollin family) guides the evening drive chit chat. But with Red Fever enveloping the city, out of morbid curiosity I dialed in the station frequency during Monday evening errands out on the road, and low and behold, it was pretty much all-Caps on WTEM's air. The Washington Times' Thom Loverro being in studio didn't hurt the cause. I was mildly shocked -- game 7 at hand or not, we were less than 48 hours removed from the NFL draft. But discussing the Redskins' efforts at that event isn't much different from discussing the Nats' starting (or relief) pitching. The sun was warm and abundant early this springtime Monday evening, so why not acknowledge the town's only sun-splashed sports team, I presume station management figured.
