Fox Sports Florida:
A source indicated Shane Battier will sign with the Miami Heat. And that source is Shane Battier.
The small forward revealed on his Twitter account Thursday morning he plans to sign as a free agent with the Heat. Such a signing would give Miami a heady veteran who can be a defensive stopper and hit a three-pointer.
Battier, who averaged 7.6 points last season for Houston and Memphis, Tweeted Wednesday night that he may have some interesting news tomorrow. On Thursday morning, he Tweeted, Lets Go Heat while also quoting South Florida singer Jimmy Buffet that he will be Trying to Reason with Hurricane Season.
A call to Battiers agent, Jim Tanner, was not immediately returned. Players can start signing free-agent deals Friday, the day NBA training camps will open after a five-month lockout.
Its not immediately clear how much money Battier, 33, might command. If the Heat doesnt waive swingman Mike Miller as part of the NBAs new amnesty clause, something Miller doesnt believe will happen, the team will have just a 3 million exception to offer free agents. Battier made 7.35 million last season.
The lockout gave me lots of time to consider what was important to me at this stage of my life, Tweeted Battier, who has never played in an NBA Finals.
