With a .106 winning percentage in the 2011-12 season, the Charlotte Bobcats made NBA history. Now, head coach Paul Silas is history.

Multiple sources reported on Monday afternoon that Silas would not receive a new contract as Bobcats head coach, ending his tenure with the team less than two years after it began.

The Bobcats went 7-59 in a lockout-shortened season, posting a lower winning percentage than the 1972-73 Philadelphia 76ers, who went 9-73 to post the worst 82-game record in NBA history. Silas, who took over for Larry Brown in December 2010, finished with a 32-88 record in his second tenure in Charlotte. He went 161-155 as head coach of the Hornets from 1999-2003, including four consecutive playoff appearances. The last of those came in 2003, after the team had moved to New Orleans.

Since Charlotte's second NBA franchise began play as an expansion team in 2004, the team has posted a record of 229-411, advancing to the playoffs just once, under Brown in 2010. Silas, who won three NBA Championships as a player, has a 387-488 record as a head coach with the Clippers, Hornets, Cavaliers and Bobcats.

According to a report by Charlotte Observer beat reporter Rick Bonnell, the Bobcats are expected to move quickly in their coaching search. Among the top names available are former Trail Blazers coach Nate McMillan and former Knicks coach Mike D'Antoni.
