Philadelphia 76ers center Andrew Bynum is schedule to resume basketball activities in four weeks after having an MRI on his right knee last week, the team reported Monday. If there are no complications, Bynum would need another one to four weeks of conditioning before returning to action. "We know that Sixers fans are eager to see Andrew Bynum play and shine in a 76ers uniform," 76ers general manager Tony DiLeo said in a team release. "We also know that no one is more eager to see Andrew play for the Sixers than Andrew himself. He fully realizes the key contribution he can make to the team. Hopefully, that day is coming soon." Bynum sustained a bone bruise on his knee in September and originally needed a month to heal. After a second evaluation on Oct. 22 by Dr. David Altchek, it was decided that Bynum needed an additional three weeks of rest. Altchek told the team that Bynum can now resume low-impact exercises for the next two weeks and then three weeks of anti-gravity treadmill conditioning. If his knee responds the way the team and doctors hope, Bynum will be able to participate in normal basketball activities by Dec. 10. From there, Bynum will need another one to four weeks to get back into basketball shape before playing significant minutes in a game.
