The Philadelphia 76ers are growing up before our very eyes. A team that has been riddled by late game woes throughout the season has finally figured out how to close a game. Now, they had back to Chicago with an opportunity to become only the fifth 8 seed to defeat a top seed in NBA playoff history.

This was not a pretty game. A lot of scrappy play and turnovers turned this into a real slobberknocker between two desperate teams. It was a slugfest all the way through, until Jrue Holiday buried back to back three balls late in the fourth quarter. While Chicago is still tried to battle back on the scoreboard, the momentum never shifted. The Sixers relied on their watertight defense and supreme Bal shooting to close the book on a heated home game.

But what does this mean for the series? Well, it puts the Bulls somewhere they never expected to be; on the brink of elimination. They get on the plane back to Chicago with a lot of questions swirling. Will Joakim Noah be ready to go for game five? Will Luoul Deng’s injuries begin to affect his play? Most importantly, can their lineup as it stands today defeat this young, hungry and inspired Sixer team?

The Sixers showed their grit on both ends of the court by really getting going on the fast break and causing Chicago to play out of their system. Again, they did not buckle under late game pressure and buried their foul shots to seal the deal. This is something that has haunted the Sixers all season, and it’s a great sign for this team’s immediate future if they can continue winning close games.

The Sixers have really shown a lot in these last three games. If they can survive this series and move forward, all bets are off. A confidence boost like this can really propel a team for a long stretch. They match up well against both Atlanta and Boston, and their defenseive play can really make a believer out of Philadelphia. Whatever happens from here on out, this team has shown us what we can expect in the future. This is only the beginning. Show Ya Luv!
