TEAMS: Boston Celtics, New York Knicks
Remember when Paul Pierce said last year that the New York Knicks and Boston Celtics should not be considered a rivalry?
It is time to lay that statement to bed as the two teams put on a heart stopping classic back and forth game that ended with a Celtics 91-89 win. Paul Pierce continued his excellent play leading all scorers with 30 points, 7 rebounds, and 5 assists. Kevin Garnett scored 15 and grabbed 8 rebounds with one of those rebounds giving him his 10,000th career defensive board.
The fourth quarter of this game saw the Celtics rally behind Pierce and Ray Allen who had 9 of his 14 in the quarter. Both teams played sloppy down the stretch and tempers flared on multiple calls from the referees. Boston thought they had the game in hand when Pierce nailed a 3 with the shot clock winding down that would have gave the Celtics a 93-89 lead with 14 seconds remaining. Upon further review the call was overturned (rightfully so) and Boston’s lead was reduced to 90-89 giving the Kn...

Enemy Chatter: Paul Pierce is a “Mother$%^&ing, Godd*#n, Son of a B#@!h”
I often wonder what opposing teams, their beat reporters and bloggers are saying about the Celtics after playing the Celtics. Here's a dose of 'enemy chatter' from New York.
So, let me state with unerring certainty, revoking of Paul “Mother$%^&ing, Godd*#n, Son of a B#@!h” Pierce’s three notwithstanding, the Knicks got ROYALLY hosed by the arbiters tonight...
Your Morning Dump... The Truth is in the numbers
Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here... highlighting the big storyline. Because there's nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump.
A large part of the Celtics’ turnaround has been the emergence of Pierce. In his past seven games, Pierce is averaging 22.9 points after averaging just 14.6 points in his first 11 games. Pierce has improved...
Paul Pierce, Celtics' Refusal to Lose Brings to Mind Earlier Team With 'Heart of a Champion'
Confetti rained down on the hardwood of The Summit in Houston in 1995 when Rudy Tomjanovich, the Houston Rockets' head coach, expressed a combination of heartfelt relief and vindictive "I told you so." The defending champion Rockets had been dismissed as too old to repeat, yet they were the ones strutting around in commemorative hats and T-shirts. Tomjanovich was asked...
Rajon Rondo Returns, Paul Pierce Scores 30 Points as Celtics Beat Knicks 91-89
BOSTON -- Boston stayed close enough until the New York Knicks failed again. This time, it was because of the Celtics' defense. Paul Pierce scored 30 points and Ray Allen had nine of his 14 in the final quarter to lift the Celtics to a 91-89 win over the struggling Knicks on Friday night. Hanging close until they finally caught New York midway into the final quarter, Celtics...
Despite Rajon Rondo's black eye, Celtics get best of Knicks
Expecting anything but drama in this game would have been foolish as the Boston Celtics outlast the Knicks 91-89. This game was a nail-biter as the officials seemed to control the outcome all around. First Paul Pierce made a huge three pointer as the shot clock went off that ended up not counting, then Landry Fields air balled the go ahead three, next Pierce made one of two free...
Unsung hero of the Knicks vs Celtics game
How great was that game last Friday! What a great appetizer for the superbowl today! Why was it so great? I’ll tell you why…This was the first matchup between the Celtics and the Knicks since the disappointing opening game loss in which Melo picked apart our defense. This game featured Rondo playing in his first game back since his injury in early January...
NBA tonight: Oklahoma City Thunder & Boston Celtics roll on
•Some great close out moments in the Oklahoma City Thunder and Boston Celtics games tonight. Durant scored last 8 points for the Thunder, including a cold-blooded three with Rudy Gay right in his face with the game tied. Absolutely incredible to watch. Paul Pierce did his own closing out with the Celtics, but his most incredible play didn’t count. As the shot clock ran down...

Celtics 91, Knicks 89: Not pretty, but well-earned
A report from the New York Daily News claimed that Mike D’Antoni would be fired if his Knicks did not beat the Celtics on Friday night.Down two points, perhaps coaching the final timeout of his Knicks career, D’Antoni combed his mustache, prayed for the ghost of Steve Nash to come save him and looked at Carmelo Anthony and Amare, two of the NBA’s most dangerous...
