Add Spurs forwards Stephen Jackson’s newly sprained right ankle to the list of freak sports injuries, after Jackson injured himself tripping over a courtside waitress taking an order from New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg. Jackson had just attempted a three-pointer in the first quarter of Thursday night’s 100-83 loss to the Knicks when he took a few steps back and fell awkwardly over the squatting server.
Jackson had to leave the game and did not return, finishing the night scoreless on 0-2 shooting from the field in just under three minutes of playing time. Mayor Bloomberg, meanwhile, enjoyed the popcorn and bottled water he ordered earlier, satisfied in the knowledge that the waitress he strategically placed to knock Stephen Jackson out of the game helped propel the Knicks to a victory over the Spurs.
