For those who think sports and alcohol go hand-in-hand, paying outrageous arena prices for beer is just part of the experience. Of course, some fans get the benefit of better prices when they go to watch their team play. Overall, beer prices at NBA arenas are up 3% this year, but the Spurs are still near the top of the list when it comes to cheapest alcohol. The Spurs are tied with the Thunder for third in the NBA in terms of money per ounce of beer. At the AT&T Center, you can get a 16 oz. beer for $5, which is 31 cents per ounce. San Antonio and Oklahoma City are the only teams in the league that still offer the $5 beer. It’s still a ridiculous price when you compare it to what you can get at a gas station, but it could be a lot worse. Laker fans pay the most in the NBA to drink during the games. The Staples Center charges $7.50 for a 10 oz. beer, a whopping 75 cents per ounce! It’s ironic considering Laker fans probably need the alcohol the most. The best value for beer in the NBA is in Denver at the Pepsi Center. Nuggets fans pay $6.25 for a 24 oz. beer, 26 cents per ounce. The wide spectrum for beer prices is actually kind of interesting. There seems to be no real correlation between quality of team and the amount they charge for alcohol. I guess it really depends on geographic location. For Spurs fans, next time you go to a game and scoff at the skyrocketing price of beer, just remember that it could be a lot worse.
