Great teams often have great owners, and that does not always mean owners who are willing to spend money. It also means owners who have cool heads and who do not interfere with team business over silly things. You know, owners like James Dolan in New York. The Knicks have been varying degrees of "messy" in the Dolan era. His obsession with Isiah Thomas, letting competent front-office men like Donnie Walsh walk, and now, apparently, threatening to trade Iman Shumpert in a vindictive response to a disagreement over summer league. Deadspin got the following video from Stephen A. Smith's interview with Dwight Howard, in which Smith casually drops that tidbit before recording the conversation.  The problem is, the interview was being beamed back to ESPN via satellite, and someone intercepted it.  I often take what Stephen A. Smith says with a grain of salt, but this seems like something he genuinely knew and was not going to report.  Unfortunately for him, he for...

Tim Hardaway Jr. Takes to Twitter Clarifying Penny Hardaway is Not His Father

Tim Hardaway Jr.’s name strongly hints at who his father is, but on Wednesday afternoon the former Michigan guard took to Twitter to clear up any confusion. The junior at the end of his name should have been a large clue for people,  but apparently the rookie who was selected by the Knicks 24th overall in the 2013 NBA draft, still gets mistaken for being the son of Penny Hardaway...

In 2007-2008 NBA Finals, the Los Angeles Lakers fell to the Boston Celtics in six games, leaving Kobe Bryant short of his fourth championship. Smith’s Knee Surgery Does Not Surprise the Knicks, Who Are Investing Less

The revelation that J. R. Smith had knee surgery Monday — just four days after signing a rich, new four-year contract — made the Knicks’ investment look instantly suspect and possibly ill-advised. But the surgery was not a surprise to team officials. And the investment was not as extensive as first believed. Smith’s deal covers a maximum of three years, with a total value...

Before Stephen A. Smith performed a sit-down interview with Dwight Howard last week about his signing with the Rockets, the two engaged in some off camera banter. A short blurb was caught on video and uploaded to YouTube in which NY native Smith tells Howard that Knicks owner James Dolan was “ready to trade [Iman Shumpert]” because the Knicks guard, who returned in January from...
