When speaking in terms of Wizards basketball, losing has become routine just as much as traffic on K Street at 5pm on a Tuesday. Customary with losing is the subsequent rash of fans and media spewing their opinions and reasoning for why the team fell short: pinpointing coaches and players, using injuries as an excuse, or, like in the case of last night’s defeat to the Orlando Magic, whining about the refs. You can’t really expect much of a different reaction. After all, not many happy headlines come out of a loss, especially when it’s the 18th of 22 games played this season. But, with that said, you can’t really negate some of the facts: The refs did in fact call a bad game. When you’ve got 39 free throws attempted by the Magic to only 9 for the Wizards, it’s always going to raise an eyebrow. A thick one. Nick Young was the anti-Lebron, scoring 20 of his 24 points in the fourth. As impressive (and late) as his performance was, it did not make up for his offensive absence ...

Wittman Compares Wiz To Cigarette Smokers

You've probably heard this one before, but the Washington Wizards are a mess. They played so poorly that they got one coach fired and now their new coach is making comparisons about them and they aren't exactly the most flattering. The New York Times' Jake Appleman spent some time with the Wizards and new coach Randy Wittman, who wasn't incredibly optimistic about...

Wizards Update: More of the Same

Interim Head Coach Randy Wittman has, at the very least, made the Wizards a more competitive team; or was that the injury to Andray Blatche that has him out 3-5 weeks? Since Flip Saunders dismissal four games ago the Wizards are .500 (2-2).  Since Blatche’s injury, younger, and hungrier players are in the lineup and making an impact.  Jan Vesely has had interesting stat lines...

What's Wrong With John Wall?

The million dollar question in the DMV is ‘What’s wrong with John Wall?’. The Wizards traveled to Orlando to face off against the struggling Magic. Wizards’ Shelvin Mack, Kevin Seraphin have career nights in Orlando

Outside of Rashard Lewis, Coach Randy Wittman was getting next to nothing from the rest of his starting five early on Wednesday, so he called on Shelvin Mack, Jordan Crawford, Kevin Seraphin and Trevor Booker and the game suddenly turned. The Wizards lost, 109-103, but if not for a critical 22-5 run fueled almost entirely by backups, they might have been knocked out much sooner....

Win Over Wizards An Imperfect Cure

A win over the Washington Wizards is not going to impress anyone. Sorry. It just is not. This is still, despite a much more inspired level of play under new head coach Randy Wittman, one of the bottom feeders in the league. Considering though where Orlando has been, and where it still wants to go, any win with a strong offensive outpouring, with a decent defensive effort, with ball...

Wizards’ Nick Young shrugs off poor start with late flurry

Nick Young used to be a player who would miss his first few shots, then sulk through the rest of the game. If he started cold, he stayed cold and could never move on. But he has matured plenty since becoming a regular starter and has routinely used sluggish starts as a challenge to have heroic finishes. His latest example was on Wednesday in Orlando, where Young spent most of the...

Ernie Grunfeld plans to stay the course with the Wizards’ rebuilding efforts and has been encouraged by what he has seen since the team replaced Flip Saunders with Randy Wittman last week.
