Restricted free agent Thaddues Young met with the Denver Nuggets today and according to Ken Berger of CBS things went really well. He even tweets that another conversation is upcoming. I did say, restricted free agent, so his former team the Philadelphia 76ers will have a chance to match any offer he’s given. @KBergCBS: “Good conversation” today between #Nuggets and RFA Thaddeus Young, and more conversations planned, source says. If Young were too sign with the Nuggets he’d be the primary backup for Danilo Gallinari. Young averaged 12.7 points and 5.3 rebounds averaging 26 minutes per game in 2010-11. He only started one game so all that production was off the bench, adding that kind of production to the Nuggets bench will only make them stronger. The question is will the Sixers let that kind of production get away? It will probably depend on the offer. Team President Rod Thorn has said “As long as it’s reasonable, we’ll definitely mat...

Thad Young talks to Denver – Someone wake up Rod Thorn

This is LITERALLY the first rumor I’ve seen associated with the Sixers or any player on the Sixers other than us being one of like 15 teams interested in Bostjan Nachbar. Rod Thorn is either the least active GM around, or the sneakiest. I know what my money is on. Anyway, the rumor is that Thad Young had a meeting with the Nuggets today, it went very well, and they plan to...

Nuggets hope to re-sign Arron Afflalo

While Nuggets execs continue to hammer out a possible deal with Arron Afflalo – a restricted free agent who said he wants to return to Denver – coach George Karl spoke honestly about the importance of Afflalo in his post-Carmelo system. “I think Arron has become our most intangible glue guy,” the coach said. “When we [...]

76ers still limited by salary cap situation

The Sixers are over the cap with a current payroll of about $68 million. That figure includes what the league terms “holds” on the salaries of their two restricted free agents, Thaddeus Young and Spencer Hawes, who were given qualifying offers that will increase their salaries by about 200 percent. If Young and Hawes receive offers [...]

Al Thornton is considering signing with Nuggets

6-foot-8 free agent forward Al Thornton is considering signing with the Nuggets, though he said he has 4-5 other teams also interested in his services. NBA gyms are open now to players from any team – for instance, Ty Lawson has been working out at the Wizards facility near his home in the D.C. area – so Thornton worked out at Pepsi Center today, as did Nuggets Andre Miller,...

76ers unveil three questionable new potential mascots

Two weeks ago, we noted that little-loved Philadelphia 76ers mascot Hip Hop, a bunny rabbit with some real 'tude, would be replaced (although the team itself said that he was retiring to a Pennsylvania farm, which suggests he had to be put down). Most people cheered the move, because Hip Hop was terrible. The Sixers and their consultants from Jim Henson's Creature Shop could...

Former Wizards coach Eddie Jordan is back coaching — high school freshmen

Former Wizards coach Eddie Jordan has returned to coaching – though not how you would expect. Less than two years after he was fired by the Philadelphia 76ers, Jordan is coaching the freshman basketball team at his alma mater, Archbishop Carroll. Jordan was the most successful Wizards coach in recent memory, leading the franchise to 197 wins and four playoff appearances before...

Ben Franklin Is A Finalist For The New Sixers Macot

The Philadelphia 76'ers killed their former mascot, Hip Hop, a couple of weeks ago. Now, they're trying to settle on a new one, and I'm not sure any of these are any better * A 7-foot tall rendition of Ben Franklin, named "Big Ben." * B. Franklin Dogg, the All-American pet, adapted from artist drawings from the day nestled under the table beside Franklin. ...

Sixers Release Cartoonish Mascot Choices

Much to the delight of local basketball fans the Sixers new ownership group put the much maligned mascot Hip-Hop out to pasture. The killing off of the Rat-King-like mascot was a good marketing tool as well -- he wasn’t inspiring any merchandise sales like the Phillie Phantic does. But the replacements created by Jim Henson's Creature Shop could actually make 76ers fans...

Nuggets continue to zero in on Afflalo

While Nuggets execs continue to hammer out a possible deal with Arron Afflalo – a restricted free agent who said he wants to return to Denver – coach George Karl spoke honestly about the importance of Afflalo in his post-Carmelo system. “I think Arron has become our most intangible glue guy,” the coach said. “When we evaluate why we lost in the playoffs (to Oklahoma City...
