1. Shaquille O'Neal to the Cavaliers Yes Shaq is old, but we all know that star power is more important than anything in this league, when it comes to winning championships. The Cavs traded for a huge amount of star power in getting The Diesel. LeBron now has someone that can hold his own in the paint and hypothetically they won't have to double-team Dwight Howard if they meet again in the playoffs. They can still surround the two superstars with three point shooters to stretch the floor and James should be as unguardable as ever. What could go wrong? The Cavs discover that Shaq and his 30+ year-old body guards the pick-and-roll as well as Big Z; and by "guards" I mean "watches player go to the rim or hit wide open jumper". 2. Vince Carter to the Magic The Magic finally have someone that can create his own shot and can be a cold-blooded scorer. They basically swapped out Hedo for Carter and even though Carter is older, he is far more athletic. Yes it hurt to lose Courtney Lee but whenever you can trade for a team's best player and give up your 6th best player, you do it. Carter should finally solve the mediocre 2-guard play they've had in recent years and Vinsanity will be rejuvenated by playing for his home team. What could go wrong? They no longer have the advantage of playing two 6-10 forwards at the same time that can shoot, handle the ball, and penetrate. Carter is a 2-guard and if the Magic think Ryan Anderson, Mikael Pietrus, or Matt Barnes are the equivalent to Hedo, in terms of skill set, they're clearly in denial. 3. Richard Jefferson to the Spurs The Spurs inject some much needed youth and athleticism into their line-up with the addition of Jefferson. With Duncan winding down his career, Jefferson gives the team a scoring punch that Bruce Bowen never had at the small forward position. Popovich is the best coach in the league and will maximize Jefferson's versatility on both ends of the floor. The fact that they gave up minimal pieces for a player that still has a lot to offer makes this the best value trade of the off-season. What could go wrong? None of Jefferson's contributions will matter if Manu and Parker aren't healthy. Jefferson is therefore more of icing on the cake, rather than the catalyst to put them over the top. Plus who's everyone going to hate now that Bowen is gone. 4. Rasheed Wallace to the Celtics 'Sheed gets one more shot to wear a WWE belt if the Celtics can win a title this year. He gives the team a big with 3 point ability that can play both the PF and C positions. He's also an insurance policy in case Garnett does not fully recover from his knee injury or if they fail to resign Big Baby Davis. Though he can be seen as a head case I believe the veteran leadership will keep Wallace in check. He knows this isn't his team and it might be his last chance at a championship. What could go wrong? Wallace's numbers slipped considerably last season and he might not be able to replace Garnett. Also, I can't see them playing him over Perkins, and since 'Sheed has never been in the role of the 6th man, we don't know how he will react to diminished minutes. Don't forget the last head case they brought in had a 24 hour broadcast meltdown. 5. Ron Artest to the Lakers The best part of this trade will be seeing the crazy haircuts Artest will now shave into his head, because being in La La land should give him tons of ideas. Basketball wise he gives the Lakers a pit bull of a player that can shoot the 3 and post up in the paint. He's a jack of all trades, and teaming him up with Bryant and Gasol will be dangerous. Losing Ariza hurts but Artest can fill that role and add to it if he's focused and in-shape. What could go wrong? He proves that he can't fill the role and shows that the Lakers made a mistake by letting go of the younger Ariza. Artest could also have a freak out, tag team with Jack Nicolson and take on the entire Staples Center crowd in a royal rumble. On second thought, that would be entertaining as hell.
