One night every year, I make sure I'm somewhere with a TV to be in front of. It's not the Super Bowl, it's not even the NBA All-Star game. It's NBA All-Star Saturday. Since I can remember I've been like a little kid on Christmas on All-Star Saturday, especially with the culmination of everybody's favorite--the slam dunk contest.
Well, crap. I should have gone out last night.
JaVale McGee tweeted it the best:
"Wow... Alot of gimmicks...."
"Get creative pleez..... Jump over overly (sic) thing huh ?"
Last night we were subjected to absolutely nothing that was brand new to us.
Even as Wizards fans, was anyone really surprised to see John Wall miss an off the backboard dunk during the skills contest and miss jumpers? Unfortunately, Wall just added to the arsenal for commentators who hate on the Wizards.
The two highlights from the night in my opinion were Chase Budinger's true blindfold dunk, and...well I guess there was only one. S...

When the Detroit Pistons were at their best in the Eastern Conference a few years, they brought something to the All-Star game that usually didn’t exist. Defense. It was the trademark of the Ben Wallace led teams. In fact, when the Eastern Conference was trailing by 21pts a few years ago, Rip Hamilton, Chauncey Billups, Big Ben and Rasheed went onto the court at the same...
John Wall entered this season with all-star aspirations, but with those dreams were dashed as the Wizards lost their first eight games and he languished through a sluggish start to the season.
He is now averaging 16.8 points and 7.6 assists in his second season since being taken No. 1 overall in 2010. He is also providing all-star caliber production over his last 10 games, averaging...
Tonight the NBA will feature the Rising Star Challenge formerly known as the Rookie-Sophomore challenge. This year’s format won’t match up the rookies against the second year players instead it will be a mix of rookies and sophomores on each team. The twist is that Shaq and Charles Barkley drafted the teams last week, and one of those players is unhappy where he...
The team-produced Wizards Magazine show did a seven-minute segment on John Wall’s living quarters, which he evidently calls “The Launching Pad.” The 90-second promo is here, and it includes Wall rifling through his 19,000 t-shirts and displaying a pair of “I Love DC” shirts. That’s good propaganda.

Normally, defense is not the strong suit of the NBA Rising Stars Game but Detroit Pistons center Greg Monroe decided to instill some at the end of the game.As Wizards guard John Wall attempted an amazing dunk, Monroe decided to steal that dunk attempt away:
The Wizards begin the second half of the season tonight against the Milwaukee Bucks. After a disappointing and frustrating first half of the season, which included my friends all laughing at me, I’m still hopeful and optimistic about this team. Now I know you’re probably wondering what makes me sanguine about the Wizards prospects, and I’m glad you asked.
It all starts with...
Joe Glorioso and I did not know what to expect but we did know there would be lots of celebrities. It's true as advertised. ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) -- Cleveland rookie Kyrie Irving made eight 3-pointers and finished with 34 points, helping Team Chuck beat Team Shaq 146-133 in the Rising Stars Challenge on Friday.
Indiana's Paul George added 23 points but the night belonged to Irving, who picked up where another rookie point guard left off in the NBA's showcase game for its first- and second-year players...
The Wizards were M.I.A. from this weekend’s All-star festivities. Aside from John Wall, no Wizards were invited to participate in any of the weekend events.
I’m sure Andray Blatche went to an All-Star party or two. I kid.
There was no Nick ‘Swaggy P’ Young in the 3 point contest, even though he’s tailored made for the contest. There was no JaVale ‘Pierre’ McGee in...
