The New York Knicks announced on Wednesday afternoon that they have signed former Louisville guard Chris Smith.
After graduating from Louisville in 2012, Smith went undrafted, but later joined the Knicks as a free agent, shortly after his older brother, J.R., resigned with the franchise. The only thing guaranteed for Smith in his contract was an invite to the training camp.
The New Jersey native reportedly had a decent shot at making the Knicks roster due to injuries, but unfortunately for Smith, he suffered a knee injury that required him to miss 3-6 months. He was waived by the Knicks in late October, but rehabbed his injury at the team’s training facility.
Smith played with the Knicks during the 2013 NBA Summer League in Las Vegas and was one of their top guards on the roster. The terms of his new contract with the Knicks were not released, but hopefully it’s more than just a training camp guarantee.
