Philly Sports World Christmas morning in Philadelphia and under our tree we have………empty boxes and broken toys? Starting with the empty boxes, the Phillies have missed out on some big name outfielders that would have made them contenders again. Upton and Hamilton being two of the big names the Phillies missed out on. What is left now as options for the Phillies are names of decline, Wells and Soriano two players that would improve the Phillies lineup with some power (they are the unwrapped present, a little excitement initially but you know why they weren’t wrapped). What is absent from the talk this off-season ( I guess to remain positive), is Howard and Utley two stars who the Phillies will need to contend. Both played shortened seasons as we all know and both will need to play far better than last season if the Phillies are to have any chance at regaining the NL East title. (Howard/Utley, that Phillies Jersey you get to replace the faded). Broken Toy: The Sixers and the “gift” they gave their fans by obtaining Andrew Bynum, outside of headlines related to “how he is wearing his hair”….. I guess it is Christmas and we shouldn’t blame Santa for the inferior gift, WE DID ALWAYS WANT ONE! The NHL and our Flyers: The silence created by the lockout is deafening especially considering the state of the Eagles and Sixers. With December quickly coming to an end and still no hockey, get it done already! There is plenty of money to be made and the fans will come back (at least here in Philly). Having a short-season this year we can liken to opening up a gift of socks and being happy! As for the Eagles it can’t get over fast enough and moving on to next season is rather hard to even consider. All we know is Christmas will come again and much will happen between that time. How it starts will play a big part in how we feel next Christmas so lets hope Lurie gets it right. Christmas 2012, the presents aren’t that terrific but there is still hope. Bynum might become healthy and give us some games. The NHL and players still have some time to get a season in and the Phillies are still a few months away from pitchers and catchers. What we do have this year like every year are the BEST DAMN FANS IN THE WORLD! Merry Christmas and to a better 2013 Philly sports year!        Similar Posts: Will the Phillies take one more shot in 2013? Bynum’s next step to ride stationary bike, out of town?
