There’s an old saying that says that practice makes perfect, but realizing that absolute perfection can never be achieved in a game or contest, some have said that practice makes players.
Missouri’s sophomore guard Kim English slept in the gym in the off-season in expectation of not missing it. Syracuse Head Coach Jim Boeheim had to have a lot of good ones on the way to becoming just the eighth coach to win 800 games and the fourth to do it at one school.
The time spent in preparation is not always easy, enjoyable or appreciated. This is why many highly touted recruits don’t reach their full potential; some starters only seem to play on game day and at least one Hall of Fame quarterback chose to come out of retirement after training camp was over.
