MINNEAPOLIS It took four "nos" and a "for sure no" for Nikola Pekovic to emphasize that his foot injury will not be a long-term problem. Pekovic missed Monday's game against the Clippers with a sore right foot, and despite participating in a limited practice on Tuesday, the center will sit out Wednesday's game against Portland as well."It just kind of flared up," Timberwolves coach Rick Adelman said. "He doesn't remember anything happening to him, so they just thought it was an irritation of the joint."Pekovic said that it's just a tiny bone that's bothering him, pointing to an area at the inside top of his right foot. The injury is most likely an outgrowth of the sprained ankle he suffered before the All-Star break, Pekovic said, a result of the off-balance pressure that such an injury put on the 290-pounder's feet.Darko Milicic will start in place of Pekovic. On Monday, Milicic scored 13 points in his first start since Feb. 1, and he'll be charged Wednesday with guarding Portland forward LaMarcus Aldridge, especially at the beginning of the night."You'd much rather have him, but Darko did a good job against the Clippers, so we're hoping that he can do a good job on Aldridge tonight," Adelman said. With a back-to-back against the Lakers and the Hornets looming on Friday and Saturday, Adelman and the Timberwolves hope to have Pekovic back for those two final games at home before the road trip.Follow Joan Niesen on Twitter.
