Shavlik Shavlik Randolph was signed by the Philadelphia 76ers as a free agent in 2005, after a Duke career that got him labeled the biggest recruiting bust of the decade by SI's Seth Davis. Shavvy played 79 games with the Sixers over three seasons, starting a handful of times. He averaged an impressive 10.7 points and 14.7 rebounds per 36 minutes in the '07-'08 season--although I suppose the argument could be made that due to the fact that he only played 27 minutes all season, the sample size might have been a little misleading.

Even with all his many statistical accomplishments with the Sixers, Shavlik's enduring legacy in Philadelphia might be the response he offered on February 7th, 2007, to ex-Utah big man John Amaechi's high-profile coming out of the closet. Asked about Amaechi's revelation by the AP, Randolph offered the infamous soundbite, "As long as you don't bring your gayness on me, I'm fine." Michael Wilbon called his comments "dumb, stupid and homophobic," and the internet was briefly set on fire with bemused incredulity to the benchwarmer's choice of words.

Perhaps because of his comments, or perhaps because of his general skilllessness and injury-prone nature, Randolph's tenure with the Sixers was ended after the '07-'08 season. He bounced around to Portland and Miami the next two seasons, and saw sparing minutes with the Blazers again this season, though that says far more about the nature of the Blazers' ****-luck season than it does about Randolph's actual utility.
